A small note about HylaFAX.org RPMs and SuSE's HylaFAX RPMS for SuSE Linux Although built on a SuSE 7.0 system, these RPMs should install fine on "any" SuSE RPM-based system. In order to build the RPM files, RPM version 3.0.5 or greater must be used due to the use of newer RPM macros. This is obtainable from http://rpm.redhat.com. SuSE traditionally has had their own HylaFAX RPM file available in their Linux distribution. These *are not* those files and have been independently created. The spec file for these HylaFAX SuSE RPMs is based off of the RedHat 6.x RPM spec file. For this reason there are some subtle differences between SuSE's HylaFAX documentation and the this RPM installation. This installation, however, will be more consistent with the HylaFAX population in general. 1) SuSE packages an update to gawk-3.0.6 with their HylaFAX RPM to fix some problems that may be noticeable in the functionality of some of the configuration scripts and other awk scripts present in the HylaFAX source. You'll not likely encounter them, but if you do, you'll need to obtain this update independently. 2) SuSE packages their own coverpage and their own client, SuSEfax, with HylaFAX. These RPMs don't contain them. Don't worry, you'll not likely miss them, either. 3) SuSE uses /usr/lib/fax for the placement of various HylaFAX resources where these RPMs use /usr/share/fax. Therefore, if you are upgrading (rpm -U or rpm -F) to these HylaFAX RPM files, then you will need to migrate any custom things from /usr/lib/fax into /usr/share/fax and remove the unused directory. 4) SuSE places a commented-line in their default /etc/inittab file which contains an init string for the HylaFAX faxgetty daemon. Generally the path on this string will be incorrect and should use /usr/sbin/faxgetty instead.
