EXTD=PERT REVIEW: The Partridge Family don't get much respect from th
EXTD=e standard history of rock from the early '70s. Much like their f
EXTD=ellow made-for-TV brethren the Monkees, their contributions are w
EXTD=ritten off as pre-fab concoctions that are too trifling to be bot
EXTD=hered with. If you fall in line with that kind of thinking you ar
EXTD=e going to miss one of the best pop acts of the era. Utilizing th
EXTD=e cream of behind-the-scenes songwriters from Neil Sedaka to Hot
EXTD=Chocolate's Errol Brown, and the lush vocal harmonies of the uncr
EXTD=edited (at the time) background singers, the Partridge Family's s
EXTD=ongs are solid AM pop, with hooks galore and a light but not sacc
EXTD=harine sound. Add to that the excellent (and under-rated) vocals
EXTD=of David Cassidy and you have some top-notch disposable pop that
EXTD=has stood the test of time. Come On Get Happy! The Very Best of t
EXTD=he Partridge Family replaces the 1989's decent Greatest Hits and
EXTD=streamlines 2001's Definitive Collection by taking away all the D
EXTD=avid Cassidy solo tracks. The bulk of the songs here appear on bo
EXTD=th those collections, though, including their smash hit "I Think
EXTD=I Love You" plus other gems like "Echo Valley 2-6809" and "Doesn'
EXTD=t Somebody Want to Be Loved." The collection also includes four p
EXTD=reviously unreleased tracks, two of which ("Together (Havin' a Ba
EXTD=ll)" and "Let the Good Times In") appeared in the show's first ep
EXTD=isode and were sung not by Cassidy but by Ron Hicklin, a member o
EXTD=f the backing vocal crew. The other two feature Cassidy and are a
EXTD=s good as any of their hits, "Baby I Love, Love, I Love You" is p
EXTD=articularly fun. Whether the unreleased four songs belong on a" V
EXTD=ery Best Of" collection is up for debate: On one hand it might ha
EXTD=ve been better to add more songs that people remembered. but on t
EXTD=he other it is nice to have the rarities unearthed. Either way, t
EXTD=his is the best Partridge Family collection available. -- Tim Se
EXTD=ndra\n\n\nAmazon.com Editorial Review\nIt doesn't happen all the
EXTD=time, but occasionally kitsch burrows itself into the popular con
EXTD=sciousness and stays put because it's timelessly, compellingly go
EXTD=od. Such is the case with The Very Best of the Partridge Family,
EXTD=which at long last allows pop aficionados who have closeted their
EXTD= dirty-little-secret obsession with the fictitious TV group to co
EXTD=me clean. Never mind the ruffles and dove-wing lapels--heartthrob
EXTD= hang-ups aside, David Cassidy can sing (skip "I Think I Love You
EXTD=" and check his soul chops on the raging "Roller Coaster" or his
EXTD=Elvis-like vocal nuances on "Point Me in the Direction of Albuque
EXTD=rque" instead.) And it doesn't hurt that the material he crooned
EXTD=was penned by some of the era's top songwriters. Barry Mann and C
EXTD=ynthia Weill, for example, lent their graceful imagery to "Lookin
EXTD=g Through the Eyes of Love," and Gerry Goffin was behind "I'll Me
EXTD=et You Halfway." Add to that the band's layered-harmony-nailing b
EXTD=ackground singers and a stash of sensational session players, and
EXTD= it can't be helped: You get happy. -Tammy La Gorce \n\n\nAMAZON.
EXTD=COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nSimply fantastic!, May 4, 2005 \nBy  Ben Gle
EXTD=nn (The nation's capital)\nOf the handful of Partridge Family com
EXTD=pilations that have appeared over the past decade or so, this rel
EXTD=ease is the clear winner! While the pristine remastering and info
EXTD=rmative new liner notes are selling points in their own right, it
EXTD= is the superb track selection that makes C'MON GET HAPPY truly o
EXTD=utstanding -- for here we have, for the first time, the two sonic
EXTD=ally exciting and highly sought-after songs from the premiere epi
EXTD=sode ("Together" and "Let the Good Times In"), which are among th
EXTD=e "Holy Grails" for PF fans, as well as two more unreleased track
EXTD=s, plus the gutsy "Roller Coaster" from the elusive BILLBOARD alb
EXTD=um. Of course, the requisite hits ("I Think I Love You," "I'll Me
EXTD=et You Halfway," etc.) are here, too, as are lesser-known, first-
EXTD=rate gems such as "Looking Through the Eyes of Love" and "Togethe
EXTD=r We're Better." Arista and Sony have hit a homerun with this rel
EXTD=ease. Essential! \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nFINALLY!, May
EXTD=10, 2005 \nBy  R. Penola (NYC, NY United States)\nThere have been
EXTD= many "greatest hits" collections of the famed TV group -- but tr
EXTD=uly, this collection is "the very best" of the Partridge Family,
EXTD=and it includes several previously unreleased tracks. The pure jo
EXTD=y of the two songs that were prominently featured in the premiere
EXTD= episode, LET THE GOOD TIMES IN (which is actually a revised, exp
EXTD=anded version of the Love Generation's first version) and TOGETHE
EXTD=R, is delightful to experience for this first time on this CD. An
EXTD=d ROLLER COASTER, from the still-unreleased BULLETIN BOARD album,
EXTD= is an excellent example of how David Cassidy evolved into quite
EXTD=a rock stylist. Fun, fun, fun!!! \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW
EXTD=\nThe Partridges Fly Again, May 5, 2005 \nBy Thomas Magnum (NJ,
EXTD=USA)\nCome On Get Happy! is yet another Partridge Family compilat
EXTD=ion, but unlike previous reissues, this set contains four unrelea
EXTD=sed songs. This disk was released to coincide with the DVD releas
EXTD=e of the show's first season and contains two songs heavily featu
EXTD=red, "Let The Good Times In" & "Together (Havin' A Ball)" which m
EXTD=ake their record debuts. These songs were used in the debut episo
EXTD=de of the show, but do not feature David Cassidy's vocals. The sh
EXTD=ows producers were unaware of Mr. Cassidy's singing ability, so b
EXTD=ackup singer Ron Micklin handled the duties. These two songs show
EXTD= the first rate pop production and songwriting that was given to
EXTD=the group. Although the group was a TV creation and are now thoug
EXTD=ht of as 70's camp, the songs are excellent examples of early 70'
EXTD=s pop. Songs like "I Woke In Love This Morning", "I Can Feel Your
EXTD= Heartbeat", "Together We're Better" & "Doesn't Somebody Want To
EXTD=Be Wanted" (written by Bruce Springsteen's first managers Mike Ap
EXTD=pel & Jim Crectos who used the royalties to start their managemen
EXTD=t company) are slick and extremely catchy. \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTO
EXTD=MER REVIEW\nA Partridge Family CD that's a response for their bes
EXTD=t fans, May 11, 2005 \nBy  John Cannon (Chesterfield, MO United S
EXTD=tates)\nAs other reviewers have noted, this CD is essential for P
EXTD=artridge Family fans simply for the inclusion of "Let The Good Ti
EXTD=mes In" and "Together (Havin' A Ball)." Both of those songs are p
EXTD=art of the spirit of the initial season of the show and would hav
EXTD=e fit comfortably on the group's first LP, "The Partridge Family
EXTD=Album." The producers of the CD, as other reviewers have indicate
EXTD=d (what a smart lot!), missed a great opportunity to include the
EXTD=theme song from the television show's first season, "When We're S
EXTD=inging!" - which has NEVER been issued on any Partridge Family CD
EXTD=. Why this was NOT included is almost inexcusable - particulary w
EXTD=hen the CD's release coincided with the DVD release of the first
EXTD=season. "C'mon, Get Happy," which opens this collection, has been
EXTD= available for years on multiple Partridge Family CD offerings. S
EXTD=till, I must give full praise to this compilation; the producers
EXTD=are clearly moving in the right direction with this release. I th
EXTD=ink a CD of outtakes, remaining unreleased songs, and song variat
EXTD=ions would be a great idea! I know I'm part of that market that w
EXTD=ould snatch it up! \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nVery Best...
EXTD=but not all When We're Singin', May 8, 2005 \nBy  A. Russo (Cambr
EXTD=idge, MA United States)\nOn the 35th Anniversary of The Partridge
EXTD= Family mania on TV and Music stores, comes the DVD of the first
EXTD=season with bonus extras including a wasted CD with 4 overused PF
EXTD= tracks (a false insentive). Coinciding with the release of the D
EXTD=VD is this compilation titled appropriately Come On Get Happy: Th
EXTD=e Very Best Of The Partridge Family. One would think that all of
EXTD=the Best would be here. Most of the best is. What separates this
EXTD=compilation from the others is that it includes the previously un
EXTD=released material from the first season and episodes, Let The Goo
EXTD=d Times In (written by Carole Bayer Sager & Neil Sedaka), Togethe
EXTD=r, Baby I Love, Love, I Love You and Stephanie (which, BTW was th
EXTD=e same song as All Of The Things with different lyrics). \n\nWhil
EXTD=e most fans will be happy for these songs and the first time on C
EXTD=D release for Roller Coaster from Bulletin Board (their last LP),
EXTD= it also has at least 1 song from each LP they recorded (excludin
EXTD=g the Christmas album for obvious reasons). Sunshine, from Crossw
EXTD=ord Puzzle, (another overlooked LP before Bulletin Board) is here
EXTD=. The other chart hits are here as well including the LP "should-
EXTD=have-been singles" hits, I Can Feel Your Heartbeat & Echo Valley
EXTD=2-6809. 17 tracks in all, an odd number. Why not round it off to
EXTD=20 and include the At Home With Their Greatest Hit top 40 cover h
EXTD=it of Breaking Up Is Hard To Do? \nAs well as the top 40 hit Am I
EXTD= Losing You and UK top 10 hit Walking In The Rain. OK..OK make it
EXTD= 21 and throw in their last charted hit Friend And A Lover! There
EXTD=...now THAT would be the Very Best Of. \n\nMaybe they should have
EXTD= come out with a CD titled "When We're Singin'" and include all t
EXTD=heir previously unreleased material from all of the seasons, usin
EXTD=g the original theme as the openning track. Since this CD is doin
EXTD=g so well on Amazon sales in the Top 100, maybe that thought migh
EXTD=t have made it to the Top 50! \n\nIn 35 more years I will hopeful
EXTD=ly be dead and wont be able to relive my youth as I have with thi
EXTD=s CD/DVD combo release. I appreciate what has been done, but wish
EXTD= it was complete. \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nI'm definitel
EXTD=y happy, and you will be, too!, May 5, 2005 \nBy Raymond C. Ruet
EXTD=her (Oklahoma City, OK United States)\nAlthough there have alread
EXTD=y been a couple of Partridge Family Greatest Hits CDs issued, thi
EXTD=s is one amazing collection! Yes, the biggest PF hits are all her
EXTD=e, as well as a few songs that may not have actually been hits bu
EXTD=t were particularly memorable from the show ("Together We're Bett
EXTD=er", "Echo Valley 2-6809", "Point Me In The Direction Of Albuquer
EXTD=que" and "Sunshine"). What really sets this collection apart is t
EXTD=he inclusion of four songs from the show that have NEVER appeared
EXTD= on a PF record in any way, shape or form until now. \n\nSo after
EXTD= all these years we FINALLY have... \n"Let The Good Times In" and
EXTD= "Together (Havin' A Ball)": the two bouncy songs from the memora
EXTD=ble pilot episode, recorded before the discovery of David Cassidy
EXTD= and his musical talents; considering how long these tracks have
EXTD=languished in the vaults they sound phenomenal on this CD. \n\n"B
EXTD=aby I Love, Love, I Love You": from the third episode. I'm guessi
EXTD=ng that this was among the very first songs recorded by the sessi
EXTD=ons musicians with David Cassidy on lead vocals. The track sounds
EXTD= like a not-quite-finished song (which may be the reason why it's
EXTD= never been available commercially before) and the vocals seem sl
EXTD=ightly speeded-up, otherwise it's sonically crisp and clear. \n\n
EXTD="Stephanie": from the final episode of Season 1 (with Bobby Sherm
EXTD=an and Wes Stern). Enjoyable musical selection that was also feat
EXTD=ured in an earlier episode with totally different lyrics ("All Of
EXTD= The Things" a/k/a "Good Times Are Comin' To Me"... maybe a futur
EXTD=e release will include that version). \n\nThis collection also fe
EXTD=atures the first CD appearance of "Roller Coaster" (from the last
EXTD= PF season and their final, long out-of-print album, THE PARTRIDG
EXTD=E FAMILY BULLETIN BOARD -- what's the holdup with THIS album seei
EXTD=ng the light of day on CD???!!!). I think I speak for a lot of PF
EXTD= fans who are thrilled that these songs are finally available to
EXTD=us (aside from their appearance during the TV series), and it's e
EXTD=vident that great care has been taken with the original masters,
EXTD=so perhaps we'll get to hear some of the other songs that have ne
EXTD=ver been available before (would really love to see Shirley Jones
EXTD=' featured leads on "The Whale Song" and "Ain't Love Easy" on a f
EXTD=uture issue!), as well as that elusive BULLETIN BOARD album... we
EXTD= can all hope!!! \n\n\nHalf.com Details \nProducer: Wes Farrell \n
