EXTD=has been banished almost entirely from the group's second album,
EXTD=whose release followed a pair of disappointing singles ("What Is
EXTD=the Reason" and "Come On Up"). It also includes their first misju
EXTD=dgment on an album, Gene Cornish's too quiet, too introspective,
EXTD=and way-too-languid "No Love to Give," amid an otherwise wonderfu
EXTD=lly soulful body of music that picks up right where "In the Midni
EXTD=ght Hour" from the prior album left off. Most of this record is a
EXTD=mong the most danceable white rock music of its period -- even th
EXTD=e Eddie Brigati-sung cover of the then-current pop standard "More
EXTD=" has a certain rocking credibility. Their attempt at bluesy rock
EXTD= & roll, Cornish's "Nineteen Fifty-Six," a bit of a "Kansas City"
EXTD= rip-off, with a pair of crunchy guitar parts and Cornish singing
EXTD= lead, also comes off extremely well. They're even better with th
EXTD=e more soulful tracks, however. "Land of 1000 Dances" was the bes
EXTD=t track on which to end this album, but it was Cavaliere and Davi
EXTD=d Brigati's "Love Is a Beautiful Thing" that pointed to the futur
EXTD=e, showing the group moving toward the mix of sounds and sentimen
EXTD=ts behind "People Got to Be Free." The CD reissue of this album (
EXTD=originally on Atlantic) has no notes but very good sound. \n \n[C

EXTD=CUSTOMER REVIEW\nWhatta Band!!!, August 3, 2004 \nBy  Rollie Ande
EXTD=rson (Forney, Texas United States)\nThe pictures on the cover tel
EXTD=l all you need to know about these guys. Just four hard-working,
EXTD=soul-searching rock and rollers who love to sweat it out for thei
EXTD=r music. They are the real deal, my fellow music-lovers and if yo
EXTD=u missed them way back in the sixties here's your chance to reliv
EXTD=e one of the best. If you don't believe me just sample "Mickey's
EXTD=Monkey/Love Lights" and you'll be dancing uncontrollably to Dino'
EXTD=s infectious and powerful drumming and Felix's growling, screamin
EXTD=g Hammond Organ. And vocals? Get outta here. They don't make 'em
EXTD=like this any more. \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nWhat is the
EXTD= reason for falling in love?, October 18, 1999 \nBy DJ Rix (NJ U
EXTD=SA)\nHey, almost every East Coast band with an organ in it had to
EXTD= do a cover of "More" during the mid-Sixties. Dad paid for the ac
EXTD=cordion lessons & Mom made sure you practiced & they definitely s
EXTD=howed up for the first set once in awhile. The girls liked the so
EXTD=ng, too, so here you get little Eddie singing his heart out right
EXTD= through the "One More Time" at the end. \n\nThis is nearly a liv
EXTD=e album. Minimal overdubbing, filled out with soul covers, a part
EXTD=y album. It has two classic Rascals songs, "Lonely Too Long" & "C
EXTD=ome On Up," & opens up with a classic question from the lyrical a
EXTD=ge of doo wop: "What is the Reason (for falling in love)". I'll b
EXTD=e damned if I know - even the immortal Monotones couldn't answer
EXTD=that one - they didn't even know who wrote the "Book of Love." \n
EXTD=\nFools do fall in love with "Collections" & I'm one of those foo
EXTD=ls. It's Saturday night at The Barge. The Rascals are tearing up
EXTD=the joint with the music on this here album. Who knows, maybe you

EXTD=e should be a clue, but just in case: this is not a Rascals great
EXTD=est-hits compilation. Released in 1967, COLLECTIONS is a studio a
EXTD=lbum that finds the Young Rascals (they hadn't dropped the prefix
EXTD= yet) at the height of their blue-eyed soul era, bashing out smar
EXTD=t funky covers of R&B hits and a small handful of meaty originals
EXTD=.\n\nToo sophisticated to be a garage band, the Young Rascals sti
EXTD=ll had a rough edge to their sound--even on a version of the midd
EXTD=le-of-the-road favorite "More (Theme from Mondo Cane)"--that give
EXTD=s the album its excitement. The boys are in full-on human jukebox
EXTD= mode, tossing off their interpretations of the Miracles' "Mickey
EXTD='s Monkey," the Marvellettes' "Too Many Fish in the Sea," and a v
EXTD=ersion of "Land of 1000 Dances" owing more to Wilson Pickett than
EXTD= Cannibal and the Headhunters. Good sweaty R&B fun.
