EXTD= 1993 Columbia/Legacy\n\nOriginally Released 1965\nCD Edition Re
EXTD=leased September 7, 1993\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: The Beverly Hillb
EXTD=illies cast album is a celebrity vocal/novelty record with a veng
EXTD=eance, featuring a baker's dozen of songs sung in character by th
EXTD=e actors from the series. When the television show first went on
EXTD=the air, Zeke Manners sued over the rights to the name because he
EXTD= had been a member of the popular 1930s group the Beverly Hill Bi
EXTD=llies, remembered today for their significant influence on the So
EXTD=ns of the Pioneers. Possibly as a term of the settlement, Manners
EXTD= was hired to arrange and conduct the cast album as well as compo
EXTD=se the bulk of the songs. Actor Buddy Ebsen, no stranger to the r
EXTD=ecording studio after his stint as sidekick to Fess Parker's Davy
EXTD= Crockett in the mid-'50s, really shines on this outing as the on
EXTD=ly credible vocalist and as a competent songwriter. Ebsen and Man
EXTD=ners collaborated on "Back Home U.S.A.," a straightforward, Weste
EXTD=rn swing-style song that is the album's high point, and Ebsen alo
EXTD=ne wrote "A Long Talk With That Boy." Donna Douglas and Max Baer
EXTD=are miserable singers who would be utterly lost if not for the ov
EXTD=er-the-top novelty material that allows them to squeak by in char
EXTD=acter. The real surprise is Irene Ryan ("Granny"), who negotiates
EXTD= her solo turns with spunk; a few songs that describe her medicin
EXTD=al tonics and country cooking feature her prominently. "Love of M
EXTD=oney" is a throwaway showcase for Jane and Drysdale (Nancy Kulp a
EXTD=nd Raymond Bailey), and the show's theme song appears twice, in i
EXTD=ts opening and closing versions. If you like the series, this alb
EXTD=um is a zany souvenir with a handful of cuts that merit repeat sp
EXTD=ins. [The album was re-released on CD in 1993 in anticipation of
EXTD=the movie version of the show.] -- Greg Adams\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CU
EXTD=STOMER REVIEW\nCome and listen to my story, June 20, 2004 \nBy  J
EXTD=ohnny Heering "trivia buff" (Bethel, CT United States)\nWhen this
EXTD= album was released, The Beverly Hillbillies was the Number One s
EXTD=how on TV. Unfortunately, TV ratings didn't translate into record
EXTD= sales in this case. This album was a flop. It's not a soundtrack
EXTD= to the television show, but rather it's a album of comedy songs
EXTD=sung by the cast. Unfortunately, the songs aren't actually all th
EXTD=at funny. Sure, there are a few chuckles here, but they are few a
EXTD=nd far between. Not to mention that most of the cast can't sing v
EXTD=ery well (although Buddy Ebsen has a decent voice). This album is
EXTD= for Beverly Hillbillies fanatics only. \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER
EXTD= REVIEW\nGood as Novelty, But You Ask Why, September 2, 2001 \nBy
EXTD= Anonymous (United States)\n..this LP was ever recorded?? Columb
EXTD=ia issued this LP in 1965 following two successful seasons of the
EXTD= show. It features the cast singing about things from the show (c
EXTD=heck out the song titles for an idea). It wasn't a success of an
EXTD=LP, and went unnoticed (for the better?). Columbia's budget subsi
EXTD=dary Harmony reissued the LP in 1971 as the show was nearing it's
EXTD= end, but still went unnoticed... It's a good novelty record, but
EXTD= no more than that. This is Dr. Demento show material!!... \n\n\n

EXTD= was suprised and thrilled to see this had been released on CD an
EXTD=d am loving every minute of it! My favorite tune on this is "Vitt
