EXTD=/Sony BMG's Elvis Christmas collection features all of the tracks
EXTD= from the King's 1957 Christmas Album and 1971's Elvis Sings the
EXTD=Wonderful World of Christmas. The former is a classic, boasting "
EXTD=Santa Claus Is Back in Town" and his peerless rendering of "Blue
EXTD=Christmas," while the spotty 1971 release relied on soul and coun
EXTD=try-inflected standards like "First Noel" and "Silver Bells." --
EXTD= James Christopher Monger\n\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: (Elvis' Christ
EXTD=mas Album) This combines the four tracks from the Peace in the V
EXTD=alley EP with recordings of seasonal standards and popular Christ
EXTD=mas classics (Elvis does outstanding versions of "Blue Christmas"
EXTD= and covers The Drifters' arrangement of "White Christmas"). But
EXTD=the album comes together with the lascivious "Santa Claus Is Back
EXTD= in Town," penned by Leiber And Stoller at the sessions so Elvis
EXTD=could have something original on the album. The definitive rock &
EXTD= roll Christmas album of the period, it stands with A Christmas G
EXTD=ift to You from Phil Spector as the very best of its genre. -- N
EXTD=eal Umphred \n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: (Elvis' Christmas Album) Elv
EXTD=is' 1957 original Christmas album is one of his most inspired ear
EXTD=ly outings and the first time he tackled anything resembling a th
EXTD=ematic concept. Split evenly between rockers and bluesy numbers l
EXTD=ike "Santa Claus Is Back in Town," "Blue Christmas," and "Santa B
EXTD=ring My Baby Back to Me," perennials like "White Christmas," "I'l
EXTD=l Be Home for Christmas," and "Silent Night," and straight-ahead
EXTD=gospel favorites like "I Believe," "Peace in the Valley" and "Tak
EXTD=e My Hand, Precious Lord," the disc revealed a different side of
EXTD=the rocker for the first time on a public instead conditioned to
EXTD=expect something outrageous. One of the King's shining moments, t
EXTD=his is quite simply still one of the best holiday albums availabl
EXTD=e. -- Cub Koda \n\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: (Elvis Sings The Wonder
EXTD=ful World Of Christmas) Elvis Presley's 1971 holiday album Elvis
EXTD= Sings "The Wonderful World of Christmas" may not be as irresisti
EXTD=ble as his 1957 masterpiece Christmas Album, but it's nevertheles
EXTD=s an enjoyable record. There are no surprises here, either in the
EXTD= selection of tunes ("O Come, All Ye Faithful," "The First Noel,"
EXTD= "Winter Wonderland," "Merry Christmas, Baby") or in its soul and
EXTD= country-inflected pop arrangements, but it's a solid record that
EXTD= will please Elvis fans. -- Stephen Thomas Erlewine\n\n\nAMAZON
EXTD=.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nGreat Christmas songs, plus a little Gospel
EXTD=, October 4, 2006 \nBy  A Fan (VA)\n\nElvis recorded 20 Christmas
EXTD= songs during his career. 19 of them are on this CD in addition t
EXTD=o 4 Gospel songs which were included on his 1957 Christmas album.
EXTD= \n\nThis collection combines the 1957 version of Elvis' Christma
EXTD=s album and his 1971 "The Wonderful World of Christmas" album. Th
EXTD=is is an excellent collection with one omission, it leaves off hi
EXTD=s recording of "If Every Day was Like Christmas" which was releas
EXTD=ed as a single in 1966 and included on the 1970 repackaging of hi
EXTD=s Christmas album. \n\nThe songs recorded for the 1957 Elvis Chri
EXTD=stmas album are outstanding! Elvis is in top form for these songs
EXTD= and several of them have become Christmas classics still receivi
EXTD=ng radio play 50 years after they were recorded! \n\nThe rest of
EXTD=the songs from his 1971 "The Wonderful World of Christmas" album
EXTD=are good but not in the same class as the earlier recordings. Elv
EXTD=is' voice seems strained on a few songs and in general the materi
EXTD=al is not has strong as his earlier recordings. But still they ar
EXTD=e very good and certainly worthy of listening to during the Chris
EXTD=tmas season. \n\nHowever, I would recommend that you buy the Elvi
EXTD=s "White Christmas" (if you can still find it) or "If Every Day W
EXTD=as Like Christmas" CDs instead of this one; I think they are a be
EXTD=tter value. "White Christmas" includes every song on this CD plus
EXTD= "If Every Day was Like Christmas" and "Mama Liked The Roses" whi
EXTD=ch were included on the 1970 edition of his Christmas album. The
EXTD="If Every Day Was Like Christmas" CD does not include the 4 Gospe
EXTD=l songs here, but it does include all 20 Elvis Christmas songs pl
EXTD=us 4 alternate versions making it the most comprehensive Elvis Ch
EXTD=ristmas CD available. Or if you really want an Elvis Christmas an
EXTD=d Gospel collection you could spend a few extra bucks on his "Chr
EXTD=istmas Peace" release which includes his 20 Christmas songs in ad
EXTD=dition to 20 Gospel songs on 2 CDs. \n\n\nDetails \nProducer: Ern

EXTD=Album Notes\nA solid 23-track overview of Elvis's secular Christm
EXTD=as songs and a healthy sprinkling of his beloved gospel tunes, EL
EXTD=VIS CHRISTMAS is the only Elvis holiday record one will ever need
EXTD=. Kicking off with his legendary reading of Leiber and Stoller's
EXTD=sassy "Santa Claus Is Back In Town," ELVIS CHRISTMAS has the devo
EXTD=tional ("Take My Hand, Precious Lord"), the more earthly kind of
EXTD=devotional (a sexy, bluesy "Merry Christmas Baby"), and, as one m
EXTD=ust with Elvis, the cheesy ("Here Comes Santa Claus"). The remast
EXTD=ered sound here is superb.
