EXTD=EW: This album is fairly uneven, ranging from the bracing title t
EXTD=rack and encompassing rock novelty hits such as "Sidewalk Surfin'
EXTD=" to poor filler cuts, like "Skateboarding-Part 1," that are more
EXTD= sound effects with music accompaniment than real music. It's a f
EXTD=un if not a very substantial way to spend 20-some minutes, and it
EXTD= shows what Jan & Dean could do when they weren't stretching thei
EXTD=r creative muscles very hard or far. Reissued in 1996 by One Way
EXTD=paired off with the much superior Jan & Dean Take Linda Surfin'.

EXTD=Edition)\nI'm floored., March 30, 2007 \nBy  Johnny Heering "triv
EXTD=ia buff" (Bethel, CT United States)\nRide the Surf was released i
EXTD=n August of 1964. Most of the songs are about surfing, not surpri
EXTD=singly. The chart singles off of this album were "Ride the Wild S
EXTD=urf" (#16) and "Sidewalk Surfin'" (#25). Those are great songs, a
EXTD=nd some other very good ones are "Tell 'Em I'm Surfin'", "She's M
EXTD=y Summer Girl" and the hilarious "The Submarine Races". There are
EXTD= two instrumentals; "Skateboarding Part 1" and "Walk on the Wet S
EXTD=ide". This is a fun album that is one of Jan & Dean's best. \n\nT
EXTD=he Little Old Lady From Pasadena was released in September of 196
EXTD=4. Most of the songs are either about summer or cars. The chart s
EXTD=ingles off of this album were "The Little Old Lady (From Pasadena
EXTD=)" (#3), "The Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamonga Sewing Circle, Book Re
EXTD=view and Timing Association" (#77) and ... "Sidewalk Surfin'" aga
EXTD=in. Instead of putting "Sidewalk Surfin'" on the CD twice, they a
EXTD=dded an alternate mix of "The Little Old Lady", which features so
EXTD=me extra lyrics instead of the harmonica solo that plays during t
EXTD=he bridge. Some other very good songs here are "Horace, The Swing
EXTD=in' School Bus Driver", "Summer Means Fun" and the hilarious "One
EXTD=-Piece Topless Bathing Suit". There are two instrumentals; "Old L
EXTD=adies Sedom Power Shift" and "Skateboarding Part 2". I probably s
EXTD=hould explain that the two versions of "Skateboaring" are basical
EXTD=ly the same, but the melody of "Part 1" is played on a surf guita
EXTD=r and the melody of "Part 2" is played on a harmonica. In both ca
EXTD=ses, the melody is based on the French children's song "Frre Jac
EXTD=ques". This is another fun album that is among Jan & Dean's best.

EXTD=A "Must Have!", February 22, 2000 \nBy Derek Blaustein (Parsippa
EXTD=ny, NJ United States)\n\nIf you are a Jan & Dean fan, you really
EXTD=must have this CD. "Take Linda Surfin" for those who have never h
EXTD=eard it, is a very interesting album. There are many styles of mu
EXTD=sic within it. A little bit of surf music, folk music, doo-wop, a
EXTD=nd other cool stuff, all together on one great album. Of course,
EXTD=the classic hit "Linda" is included, which I think is an awesome
EXTD=record! "Ride the Wild Surf" is also a great album! In this album
EXTD=, Jan & Dean give us what they are known best for... The Surf Sou
EXTD=nd. All the songs are surf songs. "Ride the Wild Surf" and "Sidew
EXTD=alk Surfin" are the big hits from the album, but all the songs ar
EXTD=e great surf recordings!\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW (One Way
EXTD= Records 2fer Edition)\nReissue of Two LP's, November 13, 1999 \n
EXTD=Reviewer: A music fan\n\nAs the picture above shows, this CD is a
EXTD= reissue of two Jan & Dean LP's from the mid sixties. It's nice t
EXTD=o have J & D's songs reissued as complete albums rather than the
EXTD=usual "best of" stuff. \n\nThe CD label is "One Way Records". I'v
EXTD=e never heard of them. The address is New York, so it does not ap
EXTD=pear to be an import. \n\nThe sound quality is as good as any Jan
EXTD= & Dean reissue I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot of them. Al
EXTD=most all songs are in flawless true stereo. Only track 18 is in s
EXTD=imulated stereo, but also appeared that way on the original LP. O
EXTD=h yea, the bonus track is also in simulated stereo, but hey, that
EXTD= wasn't part of the original LP's anyway. Also, the stereo is in
EXTD=the original "Visual Sound Stereo" as originally heard on the Lib
EXTD=erty LP's. "Visual Sound Stereo" typically meant the main vocal w
EXTD=as heard on one channel only instead of the middle as is typical
EXTD=today. Jan & Dean LP's were well known for this type of stereo mi
EXTD=xing. And a thank you to One Way Records for not trying to remix
EXTD=the stereo. This is how they sounded on the original LP's and tha
EXTD=t's the way it should be kept, end of debate. \n\nHalf.com N/A
