EXTD=AMG EXPERT REVIEW: While so many rock bands try to reinvent thems
EXTD=elves with every new\nalbum, Cake has made a name for itself by s
EXTD=ticking to its brand of smirking funk-pop. Blending\njazz, rockab
EXTD=illy, experimental rock, and a little less country than usual, Co
EXTD=mfort Eagle, the band's\nfirst album since leaving Capricorn Reco
EXTD=rds for Columbia, carries on the Cake tradition of offbeat\nhumor
EXTD= and catchy melodies. While some fans may be waiting for its soun
EXTD=d to evolve, singer / \nsongwriter John McCrea and company seem c
EXTD=ontent to reign over their quirky little corner of the\npopular m
EXTD=usic landscape. "Opera Singer" and the first single, "Short Skirt
EXTD=/Long Jacket," follow in\nthe footsteps of Cake's previous hits,
EXTD=but are no less enjoyable because of it. "Shadow Stabbing"\nis on
EXTD=e of the most straightforward rock songs the band has ever record
EXTD=ed, with McCrea forgoing\nhis usual half-spoken vocals for an alm
EXTD=ost irony-free delivery. While it is still unmistakably Cake, \ni
EXTD=t would sound right at home on a Cars album. The rest of the albu
EXTD=m is by the numbers Cake, \nwhich is comforting and slightly disa
EXTD=ppointing at the same time. The group has certainly perfected\nit
EXTD=s sound, and one can understand why it would be hesitant to turn
EXTD=its back on its extremely\ndistinctive style, but with Comfort Ea
EXTD=gle Cake comes dangerously close to simply remaking its\nprevious
EXTD= release, Prolonging the Magic . While new fans might enjoy Comfo
EXTD=rt Eagle on its own\nmerits, Cake followers may feel as though th
