EXTD= Hackler "Grandpa Spells" (Orlando, Fl. USA)\nI remember seeing t
EXTD=his film and enjoying many LPs made by these excellent sidemen, N
EXTD=ick Fatool, George Van Eps, Matty Matlock, and others, who captur
EXTD=ed the spirit of the 20's jazz. Jack Webb, Janet Leigh, Peggy Lee
EXTD=, Ella Fitzgerald, and Edmond O'Brien in the film represented the
EXTD= jazz scene in my hometown of Kansas City very authentically. I w
EXTD=holeheartedly endorse this soundtrack for any serious historian a

EXTD=ellent Small Group Portraying Music of the 20's in ...., August 1
EXTD=4, 2005 \nBy Robert J. Ament "papacoolbreeze" (Ballwin, MO Unite
EXTD=d States)\nKansas City. All of the musicians involved provided th
EXTD=e small band scoring of the original soundtrack.......BUT this re
EXTD=cording is a separate studio session (Oct. 19, 1955). The origina
EXTD=l liner notes make this fairly clear! The songs are taken from th
EXTD=e movie...but not the original soundtrack......else you wouldn't
EXTD=have a decent take of "Somebody Loves Me", where the alcoholic si
EXTD=nger, played by Peggy Lee, tragically fails the lyrics enraging h
EXTD=er gangster "sponsor", Edmond O'Brien. That said, it's excellent
EXTD=dixieland music carried off by musicians many of whom had backgro
EXTD=unds from that period. Some of the stuff reflects more of the 30'
EXTD=s and early 40's to my ear such as the Goodman-esque clarinet by
EXTD=Matty Matlock on "What Can I Say....etc", the great horn harmony
EXTD=on "Breezin' Along With The Breeze", and the silky smooth tenor w
EXTD=ork by Eddie Miller on both of these tunes. Drummer Nick Fatool s
EXTD=hows some really authentic period licks especially on the first t
EXTD=wo cuts. \n\nIf it wasn't for the music, which is excellent, the
EXTD=cd would be worth the price just for the laconic intros by Jack W
EXTD=ebb which vividly evoke memories of his dead-pan dry monotone del
EXTD=ivery. \n\nA real collector's "must". \n\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER
EXTD= REVIEW\nPete Kelly's Blues soundtrack CD, August 31, 2003 \nBy
EXTD="justjazz6" (Lakewood, CA United States)\nThis is a great re-rele
EXTD=ase of the soundtrack from the film "Pete Kelly's Blues". The onl
EXTD=y downside is that it doesn't include the great vocals by Peggy L
EXTD=ee and Ella Fitzgerald. It is strictly an instrumental soundtrack
EXTD=. Hmmm, that makes me wonder how it can be called a "soundtrack"
EXTD=if there were vocals in the film and there are none here???? \n\n

EXTD=er 28, 2000 \nBy  Lee Milligan (Danville, Ca USA)\nThere's little
EXTD= doubt that the music is great. Still, when it says soundtrack yo
EXTD=u would expect to hear Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald sing the tit
EXTD=les they performed in the movie, and they're not a part of this r
EXTD=elease.\nIts a shame too, since their voices represented some of
EXTD=the best parts of the movie. \n\nStill, the music is great. \n\n\n
EXTD=AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nNo Better Blues, February 16, 2000 \n
EXTD=By Bill Amrine (San Francisco, California)\nActually, this album
EXTD= is mostly classic Twenties' jazz, played with a precision that,
EXTD=paradoxically, can only come from musicians who have mastered the
EXTD= improvisation that is jazz. Dick Cathcart's coronet is sharp and
EXTD= clear, and he punctuates his melodies with perfect tones, backed
EXTD= by Matty Matlock on clarinet and by other musicians of equal sta
EXTD=ture. Jack Webb narrates the list and poetically describes the ag
EXTD=e of jazz; the album is worth owning for Webb's comments alone. H
EXTD=e states that "Somebody Loves Me" is his favorite song, and offer
EXTD=s no excuses. I agree, and I think you'll place this album among
EXTD=your favorite jazz. \n\n\nHalf.com Details \nProducer: Gordon And
