EXTT0=This ballad is known in many different versions and with different melodies to the lyrics. A mountain-troll falls in love with the handsome knight Sir Mannelig, and offers him all kinds of gifts if he will marry her. Sir Mannelig refuses since she i
EXTT0=s not, after all, a Christian and honourable woman.
EXTT1=This is one of our favourite ballads, and it has been recorded several times before. The melody of the tune is rather odd; perhaps it is older than most of the other medieval ballads. The lyrics tell the story of a maiden who marries the King's son,
EXTT1= but refuses to go to bed with him. When a message arrives that poor Roland, her true love, is about to leave the harbour on his ship, she runs away from the rich Prince and sails away with Roland.

EXTT3=This song tells what might happen if you go to bed with a man that is not your husband.
EXTT4=Gotte wrote this tune a long while ago, but we always felt it needed lyrics. One day Stefan came in with the extremely sad and violent but still beautiful lyrics of this ballad, and we were able to join the tune and the lyrics without too many compr
EXTT4=omises. As far as we know this is the only existing medieval ballad in Sweden where a werewolf appears. There are other versions of it, some even more violent and gory.
EXTT5=Emma taught us this ballad, which starts off bad and ends in total misery. Hilla Lilla tells the Queen the story of her life, which includes the death of her fiance, the death of her mother and how she herself was sold away. After finishing the stor
EXTT5=y Hilla Lilla falls down dead in the lap of the Queen.
EXTT6=This polska (a typical Swedish dance in 3/4) was inspired by Drew Miller, who runs the Omnium label that releases our albums in North America. "Today as before" is a careless short drinkingsong, sung in the dialect of Jamtland, which is the region o
EXTT6=f Sweden where Emma comes from.
EXTT7=A poem written in south-saami, one of the languages spoken by the Saami-people in the northern parts of Scandinavia and Russia. It is written by Cecilia Persson, a south-saami actress and friend of ours, and is inspired by an actual event, where lea
EXTT7=f-eating grubs turned a whole river valley into a complete wasteland. Ironically, the valley was to be devastated a few months later anyway, by the building of a enormous dam. It's as if nature herself felt what was going to happen and decided to ta
EXTT7=ke things into her own hands.
EXTT8=This medieval ballad tells the story of Sir Holger, a tax collector who puts too much in his own pocket. He is punished by King Kristian, who cuts off Sir Holger's head. Holger reappears as a ghoul to warn his wife that she might end up in hell - as
EXTT8= he has done - if she doesn't give back what she hasn't righteously earned. However, his wife prefers a wealthy life to a prospect of heaven.
EXTT9=This poem is written by the Swedish poet Nils Ferlin. The melody is by Per Alhbom; it was the first non-traditional tune we have recorded that we haven't written ourselves. When Emma sang it for us, we were attracted by the harshness and rawness of
EXTT9=the lyrics as well as the melody.
