EXTD=already done a live album with a 30-piece orchestra from Carnegie
EXTD= Hall, but this performance is, in some respects, better. The old
EXTD=er songs are a curiosity, with "Can You Understand" performed in 
EXTD=a version more expansive (the horns of the RPO add a lot) but les
EXTD=s taut than the original recording. "Carpet of the Sun" is simila
EXTD=rly broadened from the studio original, but is lacking the bite o
EXTD=f the original. But the "Song of Scheherazade" finally comes into
EXTD= its own here, in a performance superior to either the studio ori
EXTD=ginal or the Carnegie Hall version -- the piece acquires some sta

EXTD=pretentious and bombastic than ever as well, dating from a time w

EXTD=all concert captured in part on this 1977 King Biscuit Flower Hou

EXTD=res lengthy versions of "Can You Understand" and "Can You Hear Me
EXTD=," plus a brief, beautiful take on "Carpet of the Sun." The heart
EXTD= of the album, though, is the 25-minute suite "Song of Scheheraza
EXTD=de." The band and orchestra are in exemplary form throughout. Not
EXTD= surprisingly, however, it is vocalist Annie Haslam who is first 
EXTD=among equals here, her gorgeous multi-octave voice keeping attent

EXTD=is is Renaissance recorded at the top of their game. Yes, there a
EXTD=re some feedback issues with the recording BUT to me they were a 
EXTD=minor annoyance. I saw this great band perform live at least a do
EXTD=zen times during the mid to late 70's from very small intimate th
EXTD=eaters to large arenas (think Spectrum in Phila.). I have to say 
EXTD=that this CD and the companion Part 2, brought back very fond mem
EXTD=ories of the band's excellent live performances. \n\nI would rate
EXTD= this 5 stars if not for the intermittent feedback and power hums
EXTD= that plagued the set. It was unfortunate that the sound issues h
EXTD=appened at Royal Albert Hall with the RPO - the concert of a life
EXTD=time for the band members and audience. Again, to me these were m
EXTD=inor annoyances and in no way should stop you from buying. Annie 
EXTD=Haslam's voice is absolutely superb throughout the performance an
EXTD=d the band played a very tight set with the RPO. A must have for 
EXTD=anyone interested in Rennaisance. \n\nHere is a buying tip, you c

EXTD=s)\nThis "King Biscuit" album is a real treat. Recorded in 1977 o
EXTD=n the tour promoting the "Novella" album, it must have been a rea
EXTD=l thrill to see Renaissance performing live with an orchestra. Th
EXTD=e band had tried this once before, in 1975, with the "Live at Car
EXTD=negie Hall" album. But even though the sound isn't quite as good,
EXTD= the performance is superior. The group was at the peak of its po
EXTD=wers, and they seem far more comfortable working with the orchest
EXTD=ra live than they do on "Carnegie". In particular, the suite "Son
EXTD=g of Scheherezade" comes across much better, despite Jon Camp's v
EXTD=ocal on "The Sultan" being a bit off. \n\nIn terms of material, b
EXTD=etween the two discs, you're missing only one track that was also
EXTD= on "Carnegie", "Ocean Gypsy" (no loss as far as I'm concerned). 
EXTD=You also get material from "Novella" (which had yet to be recorde
EXTD=d in 1975) and an exciting arrangement of the title track of the 
EXTD="Prologue" album performed exclusively by the orchestra. This is 
EXTD=the only place that you can find the latter. \n\nYes, the sound q
EXTD=uality is a bit off. A buzz from bad grounding that couldn't be e
EXTD=ntirely eliminated is indeed audible during the quiet passages. B
EXTD=ut this is easily overlooked in the light of the superior perform
EXTD=ances. Both fans and newcomers should love this album. \n\n\nAMAZ

EXTD= Understand' is clear as a bell, unlike its more subdued version

EXTD=ere's the Cliffnotes version: Renaissance performs MUCH better on
EXTD= Live At Carnegie Hall (I think they were probably appalled & dis

EXTD= quality" is absolutely unbelievable--there is buzz from poor gro
EXTD=unding and far too much feedback through nearly the entire concer
EXTD=t to be tolerated. Either LISTEN to this recording CLOSELY before
EXTD= you buy it, or do yourself a huge favor and pass on it to begin

EXTD= of this album is very poor. Consider yourself warned. However th
EXTD=e performance is powerful enough that it deserves a high rating a
EXTD=nyway. I would recommend new listeners find the two "Tales From 1
EXTD=001 Nights" compilations, particularly the second, to discover Re
EXTD=naissance (through the excellent music AND liner notes). Then go 
EXTD=on to buy the individual albums based on what you've discovered. 
EXTD=For this release I recommend one already be familiar with the ban
EXTD=d. The version of Prologue is a treat because it is orchestra onl
EXTD=y, thus differing greatly from the other versions. All the songs 
EXTD=are performed very well- Tout in particular sounds great. The bas
EXTD=s is a little out of tune in parts of "Can You Hear Me?" but it i
EXTD=s otherwise very nice. It's a shame some of the orchestra parts a
EXTD=re almost inaudible in Scheherezade, but it otherwise sounds grea

EXTD= I could give this disc two different ratings I would. One for pe
EXTD=rformance and another for production/sound quality. While the per
EXTD=formance is top-notch this disc is marred by slip-shod sound. The
EXTD=re is an annoying perisitant buzz throughout this disc. It's espe
EXTD=cially irritating during quiet passages. There are also occasiona
EXTD=l bursts of feedback. Asking to pay full price for this disc is a
EXTD= thievery. If I could demand my money back I would. \n\n\nHalf.co
