EXTD=id-tempo hit, "(Don't Fear) the Reaper," which propelled it into
EXTD=a higher commercial orbit and caused (or reflected) a change inth
EXTD=e balance of power in the group. The song was written by guitaris
EXTD=t Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser and was an indication that the band
EXTD= was now largely doing its own songwriting; co-producer Sandy Pea
EXTD=rlman earned only one co-writing credit on the record, while drum
EXTD=mer Albert Bouchard had five. Poetess Patti Smith, meanwhile, not
EXTD= only co-wrote two tracks, but also performed on one, "The Reveng
EXTD=e of Vera Gemini." The result was a record much more in a pop-roc
EXTD=k vein than the vaunted metal of the first three albums and BC's

EXTD=are just as "Non-Commercial" as most of their earlier releases an
EXTD=d also just as great. The thing that helped make this album their
EXTD= first big sucess was not only "Reaper" but the great production
EXTD=which leaves their first 3 releases in ashes. This Remaster takes
EXTD= that production and really shows the depth of the songs andperfo
EXTD=rmances. I have the Gold Disc of this album and feel that this Re
EXTD=master is so much better because it brings out subtle production
EXTD=and keyboard effects that make this album great. If you arenot a
EXTD=real big BOC fan you may not find the bonus tracks much toyour li
EXTD=king but I did. The demo of "Reaper" sounds like a "personal" son
EXTD=g not a "hit". "Fire of Unknown Origin" really changed from this
EXTD=demo to the song they released in 1981. The later versionis bette
EXTD=r but how did they get there from here? The other 2 Bonus Tracks
EXTD=are interesting,I only feel they help make the case for a BOC Box

EXTD=re, of course, two classic songs here, the well known 'Don't Fear

EXTD= CD is just a scattered collection of indifferentsongs, that fail

EXTD=Reviewer: A music fan\nFirst of all, I would just like to say tha
EXTD=t I am a huge BOC fan. Having said that, I am of the opinion that
EXTD= this is BOC's most overrated cd. This cd sounds too disjointed a
EXTD=t times and more like a collection of songs than a cohesive album
EXTD=. Obviously, Don't Fear The Reaper" is great and "E.T.I." is bril
EXTD=liant. However, the rest is hit and miss. I personally like "Tatt
EXTD=oo Vampire" and "The Revenge Of Vera Gemini" alot. "True Confessi
EXTD=ons" ranks among the worst BOC songs ever. Many fans are big on "
EXTD=This Ain't The Summer Of Love", but I think itis average at best.
EXTD= In short, this cd is necessary because of the 2 big tracks, but
EXTD=let's not kid ourselves by saying it is one of BOC's best, becaus

EXTD=ts Commercial Success!, April 28, 2000\nReviewer: Ryan Costantino
EXTD= (Juneau, AK) \nThis is Blue Oyster Cult's money maker to be sure
EXTD=. Their fifth album, the band was already known to a loyal "cult"
EXTD= following but with the release of "Don't Fear The Reaper" as a s
EXTD=ingle and extensive radio play national fame was soon to follow.
EXTD=But this album is flawless (I am a little biased since BOC is my
EXTD=favorite band). Unfortunately fans of "Don't Fear The Reaper" who
EXTD= purchased other albums by the band under thepretense of getting
EXTD=a similar sound were apparently disappointed. The band has had li
EXTD=mited commercial success, and are known for only a few semi-hit s
EXTD=ingles. "Don't Fear the Reaper", "Burnin' For You", and "Godzilla
EXTD=" are the only songs I can ever recall hearing by the band on my
EXTD=local classic rock radio station. But as with all their albums Ag
EXTD=ents of Fortune is a celebration of mythology, superstition, the
EXTD=occult and storytelling through lyrics. "This Ain't The Summer Of
EXTD= Love" is great. "True Confessions" is deceptively upbeat. "Don't
EXTD= Fear The Reaper" has got to be one of the most poetic and beauti
EXTD=ful songs I have ever heard. "E.T.I." is just electric fun(Three
EXTD=Men in Black said don't report this...), "The Revenge of Vera Gem
EXTD=ini" is about dark desire and betrayal, "Sinful Love" is one of m
EXTD=y favorite BOC songs, about a sexually overbearing woman and her
EXTD=rebelious lover, "Tattoo Vampire" is just plain weird and was men
EXTD=tioned in the Stephen King/Peter Straub collaboration "The Talism
EXTD=an". "Morning Final" is about a murder in the subway, and presuma
EXTD=bly how death comes to us all. "Tenderloin" is about strange sexu
EXTD=al appetites. "Debbie Denise" is about a loyal girlfriend, withou
EXTD=t any thoughts of her own. For any Blue Oyster Cult fan this albu
EXTD=m is a favorite, the lyrics are some of the best the band has eve
EXTD=r put out, the music is enchanting and haunting at the same time.

EXTD=rough "author and music buff" (Springfield, PA United States) \nT
EXTD=his album remains, unquestionably, a landmarkin seventies rock. B
EXTD=lue Oyster Cult ditched the bare bones demonic sound of the origi
EXTD=nal three albums and polished their metal toa high gloss. But it
EXTD=was still a very wicked mirror they were staring into, and the so
EXTD=ng "Don't Fear The Reaper" gave a whole generation of hungry teen
EXTD=aged boys a loud "Romeo and Juliet" for theages. \nPrior to this
EXTD=album, the Cult was almost maddening in their intentionally obliq
EXTD=ue lyrics (think "Flaming Telepaths," "Harvester of Eyes" or "She
EXTD='s as Beautiful As a Foot" from the first two albums) and obvious
EXTD= intellect. For "Agents Of Fortune," they dropped the pose and we
EXTD=nt for the IQ, it brought forth a batch ofsuperior songs. The ope
EXTD=ning crunch of "This Ain't The Summer of Love" set the tone for b
EXTD=rawn, the lyric "things ain't the way they used to be" delivers n
EXTD=otice that the band is ready to strike out in new directions.\n\n
EXTD=There isn't a song here without a memorable moment, riff or lyric
EXTD=. From Patti Smith's intonement of dread the opens "The Revenge o
EXTD=f Vera Gemini" to the devilish "Tattoo Vampire" to the bitterswee
EXTD=t breakup of "Debbie Denise," this was Blue Oyster Cult firing on
EXTD= all cylinders. It was also Buck Dharma at his peak as a guitaris
EXTD=t.\n\nMy only argument with the re-issue is that, frankly, with a
EXTD=ll the time they spent perfecting the 10 songs on the original 19
EXTD=76 release, the demos sound like squonk. Worth one listen and the
EXTD=n nothing worth hearing again. This is still a five star classic.

EXTD= hearing, although I don't listen to it as much now. As far as ro
EXTD=ck and roll purists are concerned, this should be one of the top
EXTD=albums from 1976. Forget Barry Manilow and The Captain & Tennille
EXTD=, this is Rock & Roll that really "gets down". Lyrics like, "You'
EXTD=re the kind of girl I like to find, face like an angel but you ba
EXTD=ll like the devil", is one good example from "The Revenge of Vera
EXTD= Gemini". The first song, "This Ain't theSummer of Love", is a he

EXTD= the best rock songs of all time. This is Blue Oyster Cult's best

EXTD=l-time classic, March 24, 2002\nReviewer: A music fan\nOn their f
EXTD=irst three albums, Blue Oyster Cult perfected a brand of thinking
EXTD= man's riff-rock that stood out againstthe typical heavy metal fa
EXTD=re of the early 70s. One thing they hadn't done was to write a so
EXTD=ng that would attract mainstream attention. This was accomplished
EXTD= with 'Don't Fear the Reaper' from AGENTS OF FORTUNE. With its ti
EXTD=meless riff, sublime vocals and effortless energy, 'Reaper' is pr
EXTD=obably the band's greatest hit. The problem with having such a so
EXTD=ng on your record is that it tends to make the rest of the songs
EXTD=sound mediocre. But there is more to like about this album than j
EXTD=ust that one track. On songs like 'This Ain't the Summer of Love'
EXTD=, 'E.T.I.' and 'Tattoo Vampire' they added more solid heavy rock
EXTD=to their collection, while 'True Confessions', 'Morning Final' an
EXTD=d 'Debbie Denise' float along a more subtle, melodic vein. Patti
EXTD=Smith's vocals on the haunting 'Revenge of Vera Gemini' are anoth
EXTD=er album highlight. The album as a whole sounds a little lighter
EXTD=and more "pop" than the first three, but in general it's faithful
EXTD= to the BOC aesthetic established to that point. Suffice to say,
EXTD=AGENTS OF FORTUNE is one of the essential BOC albums.
