EXTD=Originally Released February 2, 1999\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: With the de
EXTD=cline in Heart's popularity in the 1990s, its guitarist/singer/songwri
EXTD=ter Nancy Wilson made a first, tentative stab at a solocareer by scori
EXTD=ng the 1996 film Jerry Maguire and appearing on the soundtrack album.
EXTD=While working on the score, she began turning up at the hootenannies a
EXTD=t the folk club McCabes Guitar Shop inLos Angeles, and the result is t
EXTD=his album, which represents a second toe in the water for her. Playing
EXTD= acoustic guitar and mandolin, and accompanied only by a couple of fri
EXTD=ends on background vocals, Wilson covers Paul Simon ("Kathy's Song"),
EXTD=Joni Mitchell ("ACase of You"), and Peter Gabriel ("In Your Eyes"), st
EXTD=rips down some Heart hits ("Even It Up," "Angels," "These Dreams"), an
EXTD=d, mostinterestingly, performs some new originals. Wilson sounds more
EXTD=confident on the covers, and the guitar is sometimes mixed higherthan
EXTD=the vocals, but several of her compositions sound promising.Maybe the
EXTD=next step is a real solo album. -- William Ruhlmann\n\nAmazon.com Edi
EXTD=torial Review\nConsidering her status as a driving force behind the wo
EXTD=rldwide success of Heart, it's surprising tosee the caution with which
EXTD= guitarist-vocalist Nancy Wilson has approached her bow as a solo perf
EXTD=ormer. Most bands spin off solo careers as often as--indeed, perhaps m
EXTD=ore often than--they changetheir shirts. But Wilson is old school and
EXTD=Heart has always gotten her best stuff. Just so, Live at McCabes comes
EXTD= off as a loose and low-key showcase for Wilson's new material, as wel
EXTD=l as a chance to show off her interpretive skills. The 13-song all-aco
EXTD=ustic program is highlighted by well-chosen covers such as Paul Simon'
EXTD=s"Kathy's Song," Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes," and Joni Mitchell's "
EXTD=A Case of You." Wilson also takes on three Heart classics--"Even It Up
EXTD=," "Angels," and "These Dreams"--while new songs such asthe mandolin-d
EXTD=riven "Half Moon" and the gorgeous "Everything" stand comfortably alon
EXTD=gside her best stuff. "All we need is a campfire," Wilson quips at one
EXTD= point, an appropriate summation of thisintimate, unpretentious, class
EXTD=y set. --Daniel Durchholz \n\nPeople\nThis charming but lightweight al
EXTD=bum contains a few forgettable Wilson originals, some recycled Heart t
EXTD=unes and some of Nancy'sfaves. \n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nunprete
EXTD=ntious and wonderful, May 23, 2004\nReviewer: Jon Norris (Oregon, USA)
EXTD=\nAnn and Nancy Wilson are so powerful together that one can forget th
EXTD=ey are each substantial talents in their own right. This CD is a recor
EXTD=ding of a solo acoustic performance by Nancy (and a couple of friends,
EXTD= Kristen Barry and Astrid Young, singing backup) at a guitar shop in L
EXTD=os Angeles.\nWhile there are Heart tunes like Even It Up and These Dre
EXTD=ams, some of the songs are not from the Heart playlist. The high point
EXTD= of the CD for me was her cover of Peter Gabriel's In Your Eyes, one o
EXTD=f my favorite songs. She did such a great job, it prompted me to pull
EXTD=out my guitar and finally learn the song myself. (Thank you, Nancy.)\n
EXTD=\nThis CD is a great showcase ofNancy's talent, stripped down to the b
EXTD=are essentials - just her voice and guitar (and mandolin). While a tin
EXTD=y bit more folksy thanmost Heart CDs, this set is a great listen. It i
EXTD=s more in the "unplugged" vein of The Road Home concert, and those who
EXTD= appreciateNancy's muscianship (or are just smitten with her fine self
EXTD=) will enjoy it. It is nice to hear every nuance of her voice and thec
EXTD=hemistry between it and her guitar, as well as her interaction with th
EXTD=e audience. It would have been very cool to watch. Too badthere is no
EXTD=DVD. I do wish the cover art had more pictures of her, however.\n\nNan
EXTD=cy holds a special place in my heart. She was the first female guitari
EXTD=st I ever saw who fulfilled a longtime desire of mine to see a really
EXTD=firey, intense woman tear up the fretboard. The cut titled Leghead's L
EXTD=ament on this CD reminds me a bitof the old intro to Crazy On You that
EXTD= I saw her play in a concert video. That video of her playing blew me
EXTD=away, and I have beena dedicated fan ever since. I also love the Celti
