EXTD=90\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Of Blue yster Cult's three live albums,
EXTD= Extraterrestrial Live is the one to own. The two-record set, par
EXTD=tially recorded on BC's home base of Long Island, contains the b
EXTD=and's biggest hits, "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" (making its second
EXTD=live appearance) and "Burnin' for You," as well as longtime conce
EXTD=rt favorites like "Cities on Flame," "The Red and the Black," and
EXTD= "Godzilla." But it isn't just the superior song selection that g
EXTD=ives this album the nod over On Your Feet or on Your Knees and So
EXTD=me Enchanted Evening; BC had regained its momentum in 1981 with
EXTD=Fire of Unknown Origin, and this album demonstrated their renewed
EXTD= spirit in the forum in which they were most comfortable -- live
EXTD=work.  -- William Ruhlmann\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nAnother
EXTD= Great BOC Live Album, October 18, 2006\nReviewer: Steven Sly (Ka
EXTD=lamazoo, MI United States) \nThis album was recorded on the "Fire
EXTD= Of Unknown Origin" tour that saw the first cracks beginning to a
EXTD=ppear in the lineup. Original drummer Albert Buchard left (or was
EXTD= fired from) the group during this time and only appears on two t
EXTD=racks of this release. The rest of the drumming duties are filled
EXTD= by former drum tech Brian Downey who would continue as the bands
EXTD= drummer for the next few years. The original vinyl version of th
EXTD=is album was a 2 record set, but appears on one CD. The album cov
EXTD=ers a lot of ground and serves as a nice overview of the band's c
EXTD=areer up to this point. The hits are here ("Burnin For You", "God
EXTD=zilla", "ETI", "Don't Fear The Reaper") and all done well. "Reape
EXTD=r" especially comes of better than on the previous live version o
EXTD=n "Some Enchanted Evening". Lot's of great album cuts are include
EXTD= here too featuring "Joan Crawford", "Dominance And Submission",
EXTD="Black Blade", "Hot Rails To Hell", and the almost proggy "Vetera
EXTD=n Of The Psychic Wars" complete with a killer guitar solo from Bu
EXTD=ck. The album also includes a cool cover of "Roadhouse Blues" wit
EXTD=h special guest Robby Krieger from The Doors. Overall it is anoth
EXTD=er great live BOC album.\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nThe Cul
EXTD=t delivers the package, May 5, 2005\nReviewer: Scott Rogers (Ga.)
EXTD= (Gainesville, Ga United States)\nBlue Oyster Cult, at a crossroa
EXTD=ds in their veteran career, released "ETI Live" in the late 1980s
EXTD=. At a time when long hair metal acts were taking over the popula
EXTD=r music scene (at least the young white male demographic) BOC rel
EXTD=eased their last live album to date of their unique, original har
EXTD=d rock and roll. What we get from the effort is a true cross-sect
EXTD=ion of the music the band made through their evolving career. Fro
EXTD=m the early days of the progressive metal to the streamlined dark
EXTD= power pop the band made during their previous three albums. Its
EXTD=of interesting note that Albert Bouchard who was canned during th
EXTD=e tour and replaced by drum tech Rick Downey are both featured he
EXTD=re. So the listener is treated with the jazz-rock stylings of Bou
EXTD=chard and the heavy-groove of Downey's style. Of course the alway
EXTD=s overlooked Buck Dharma is acting the eye of the hurricane with
EXTD=his killer original style. Although it is of note that I prefer B
EXTD=uck's performance on the "Some Enchanted Evening" album because o
EXTD=f the cleaner recording of his guitar as opposed to the super-dis
EXTD=torted over-driven sound on "ETI Live". BOC fans will gripe at th
EXTD=e song selection (being used to the regular repitoir of the band)
EXTD= but all in all its a worthy addition for a band who never shied
EXTD=away from a stage. BOC is a KILLER live act, make no doubt. The n
EXTD=ewer live cd-dvd is, of course, better for hard-core BOC fans and
EXTD= is a better live effort, you will get a flavor for the band with
EXTD= "ETI Live". \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nThe Big One, Novem
EXTD=ber 11, 2003\nReviewer: Johnny S. Geddes (Northern Ireland)\n'E.T
EXTD=. Live' (released April 1982) was the logical successor to 'Fire
EXTD=of Unknown Origin' (released June 1981). Hot on the heels of a ki
EXTD=ller studio album, it only made sense (yes, corporate sense as we
EXTD=ll as common sense) that another double-length live release would
EXTD= be a good insurance policy against career anticlimax.\nTo put sp
EXTD=eculation at its raison d'etre aside, this live release served tw
EXTD=o important functions external to keeping the momentum of 'Fire O
EXTD=f Unknown Origin' going. To be fair, there are only three songs r
EXTD=epresented from that album on here. The first important function
EXTD=is that 'E.T. Live' 1980's-ified their early hits for many ears t
EXTD=oo young to have dug the studio versions.\n\nSecondly, it simply
EXTD=meant that at the ripe old age of ten (then a serious thing for m
EXTD=ost acts still 'making it' in the charts), Blue Oyster Cult still
EXTD= COULD have a commercially viable double-length live release. The
EXTD=y were certainly every bit the metal act Sabbath were by this poi
EXTD=nt ('Live Evil' was released at the same time), if not more in so
EXTD=me regards. \n\nHmmmm ... is this the best live representation as
EXTD= yet available of B.O.C.? Yes and no. 'Extraterrestrial Live' is
EXTD=darned fine but it's not a good starting point. Look on it as a t
EXTD=rip to the Blue Oyster Cult equivalent of the Vatican and prepare
EXTD= to be dazzled by the effect if ye are truly a B.O.C. head. If yo
EXTD=u're not and just want an insight into the group's live stuff, ge
EXTD=t 'Some Enchanted Evening'; it's cheaper, anyway.\n\n\nAMAZON.COM

EXTD=IVE presents a collection of 13 songs recorded live by Blue yste
EXTD=r Cult between 2/11/1980 and 12/31/1981 during shows in Long Isla
EXTD=nd and Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Hollywood, Philadelphia and Reseda, Ca

EXTD=nly on " Black Blade " and " Dominance and Submission " recorded
EXTD=in 1980. He will be replaced in 1981 by Rick Downey. \nThe CD off
EXTD=ers a good balance of old and new songs and only The Doors's " Ro
EXTD=adhouse Blues " as previously unrecorded track. In 1981, the band
EXTD= is already in the second part of its career and this live album
EXTD=is THE CD to be remembered from this period. Even " Dr. Music " a
EXTD=nd " Burnin' for You ", not very convincing on the studio albums

EXTD=eleased at a time when the band was making a mini comeback in the
EXTD= early '80s thanks to its prior studio album, FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORI
EXTD=GIN. Featuring material recorded during the Black and Blue Tour t
EXTD=hat BOC did with Black Sabbath, EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIVE bristles wi
EXTD=th energy thanks to a set in which instrumental excesses are kept
EXTD= to a minimum.\nThese hand-picked tracks represent an excellent c
EXTD=ross-section of BOC's impressive oeuvre dating back to the band's
EXTD= beginnings. Early nuggets such as "Cities on Flame," "Hot Rails
EXTD=to Hell," and "Red & the Black" (later covered by the Minutemen a
EXTD=nd fIREHOSE) are included alongside Blue Oyster Cult's Top 40 hit
EXTD=s "Don't Fear the Reaper" and the more recent smash "Burnin' for
EXTD=You." BOC also serves up other UNKNOWN ORIGIN standout songs that
EXTD= included the clever horror movie-themed "Joan Crawford" and "Vet
EXTD=eran of the Psychic Wars" (which was included on the soundtrack t
EXTD=o the animated classic HEAVY METAL). Specific highlights include
EXTD=Robbie Krieger joining BOC on his former band's "Roadhouse Blues"
EXTD= and a nearly eight-minute rendition of "Godzilla" in which these
EXTD= hard rock giants proved their might as one of the more formidabl
EXTD=e live acts of the day.
