EXTD=t even received a ranking in the Worst Rock n' Roll Records of Al
EXTD=l Time. By now the fivesome's quest for a chart-busting ballad al
EXTD=most reached new age ("In My Dreams"). REO can still drop good pu
EXTD=nchy pop like "Can't Get You Out of My Heart." And, of course, Br
EXTD=uce Hall comes through with "Accidents Can Happen," one of those
EXTD=odd songs that could only fall from the radical '80s. Neal Dought
EXTD=y gives "Variety Tonight" some snap, but the band's reach overext
EXTD=ends its grasp. As always when worrying about the wallet, REO ali
EXTD=enates the old fans without drawing any new. -- Doug Stone\n\nAM
EXTD=AZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nPleasantly Surprised, February 21, 2006
EXTD=\nReviewer: Anthony Vera\n"Life as We Know it" is a fantastic alb
EXTD=um. The songs are all catchy, light-hearted, and fun. Sure the so
EXTD=und on this album can be classified as cheesy, but you know somet
EXTD=hing...IT WORKS! Through out their career, you can see REO roll w
EXTD=ith the changes in the music biz. "Life as We Know It" is much be
EXTD=tter than their previous effort "Wheels are Turnin" and I place t
EXTD=his album up there with their classics. After this album Gary Ric
EXTD=hrath and Alan Gratzer left the band and REO, in my opinion, has
EXTD=never fully recovered. \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nSolid RE
EXTD=O release, July 12, 2005\nReviewer: Jon (San Diego, California)\n
EXTD=Though this album was hugely overlooked does not mean it is a bad
EXTD= album. Trust me, it's not. REO always kept the rock rolling but
EXTD=they were always trying something new in their songs. This album
EXTD=is a prime example. NEW WAY TO LOVE, the first track on the album
EXTD=, is such a fun song with a catchy beat and nice horns, it makes
EXTD=you want to dance! Aside from the three singles in THAT AIN'T LOV
EXTD=E, IN MY DREAMS, and VARIETY TONIGHT - all of which are very catc
EXTD=hy and good - the rest of the album is just as well-produced, wri
EXTD=tten, and performed. Sadly, the last album with the classic line-
EXTD=up. Well worth the purchase.\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nOne
EXTD= of Reo's finnest., September 4, 2004\nReviewer: Jukebox Hero (Al
EXTD=lendale, IL United States) \nBuy the time Life as We Know it was
EXTD=released in 1987 some fans weren't to interested in buying a new
EXTD=Reo album, but Life as We Know it is Reo's strongest album since
EXTD=Hi Infidelity. New Way to Love kicks off the album, then the fami
EXTD=liar That Ain't Love and In My Dreams. With Life as We Know it th
EXTD=e boys really wrote a killer batch of tunes. One too Many Girlfri
EXTD=ends, Variety Tonight, and Screams and Whispers also stand out. I
EXTD=f you can find this one I highly recommend it.\n\n\nROLLING STONE
EXTD= REVIEW\nOn 'Life As We Know it,' REO Speedwagon grasps at maturi
EXTD=ty and falls down. On the surface, this ostensibly ambitious move
EXTD= makes sense: after a dozen-odd albums of peppy midtempo love son
EXTD=gs and rockers, the group must have wanted to try something new,
EXTD=if only from boredom. But REO acts as if starting anew is a simpl
EXTD=e equation that can be solved by pushing the right buttons. The b
EXTD=and has called in the songwriting team of Tom Kelly and Billy Ste
EXTD=inberg ("Like a Virgin," "True Colors"), whose clich-filled cont
EXTD=ributions to this album are virtually indistinguishable from thos
EXTD=e by REO lead singer Kevin Cronin. REO has also upped the grit fa
EXTD=ctor a smidgen in the clinically clean arrangements and has start
EXTD=ed singing about bad times as much as good times. Voil, instant
EXTD=breakthrough.\n\nBut Life As We Know It replaces one used-up form
EXTD=ula with another. Many of the numbers are about long-term relatio
EXTD=nships gone sour, with titles like "New Way to Love," "Variety To
EXTD=night" and "Tired of Gettin Nowhere." Most distressing are the Ke
EXTD=lly-Steinberg contributions, especially the hyperactive "Over the
EXTD= Edge" (co-written with REO guitarist Gary Richrath), which sound
EXTD=s painfully like the title tune to Footloose. Kelly and Steinberg
EXTD='s work for Madonna and Cyndi Lauper seemed detailed and honest;
EXTD=their songs here are just plain embarrassing. If this is life as
EXTD=we know it, then perhaps ignorance is bliss. (RS 498 - Apr 23, 19
