EXTD=G EXPERT REVIEW: Where Criss once commanded "shake it one time fo
EXTD=r Peter," now the singing drummer pleads for permission to rock y
EXTD=ou in the doo woping Russ Ballard title track. This is defiantly
EXTD=a kinder, gentler Cat Man strut, and with a star-studded cast of
EXTD=second stringers supplying songs and support, Let Me Rock You is
EXTD=some kind of bizarre collector's item. Rising star Steve Stevens
EXTD=slips in a softie called "First Day in the Rain," letting loose s
EXTD=ome typically beautiful pyrotechnics in the break. John Waite doe
EXTD=s a better "Tears," but not by much. Criss even takes Bryan Ferry
EXTD= to task with an odd reading of "Jealous Guy" (sans whistling, so
EXTD= why bother?). Our boy from Brooklyn actually co-wrote a deuce: t
EXTD=he tomcatting Gary Cooper nooner "Move on Over" and "Bad Boys," w
EXTD=hich brings the Devil to his knees. Plus, a certain Gene Simmons
EXTD=offers up the chugging "Feel Like Heaven." Criss graces the cover
EXTD= without makeup or shirt, which is apropos, as mad Vini Poncia br
EXTD=ings his enjoyable Kiss Unmasked sensibilities to the production.
EXTD= With 40 minutes of slick silliness that will slide right through
EXTD= your psyche, Let Me Rock You may easily be the aural equivalent
EXTD=of catnip.  -- Doug Stone\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nESSENT
EXTD=IAL MOMENT FROM THE CAT-ALOGUE, January 3, 2005\nReviewer: Kevin
EXTD=Dobbs "dragonboots" (Perth Western Australia)\nThis CD is essenti
EXTD=al and may surprise many doubters and nay-sayers who have dismiss
EXTD=ed Peter as the least capable Kiss member past and present. Peter
EXTD= Criss excudes charisma on this one with a stylish collection of
EXTD=material that still stands up today some 20 odd years plus. Havin
EXTD=g possibly accepted that he was not the greatest songwriter, he o
EXTD=pted wisely for a collection of his own work and some contemporar
EXTD=y writers such as Russ Ballard. Neither the best vocalist or drum
EXTD=mer it is the heart and soul that draws the listener in. Highligh
EXTD=ts abound and the styles are varied. "Let It Go" is a great opene
EXTD=r somewhat reminisant of Dynasty's "Dirty Living". It is the next
EXTD= cab off the rank in the Vinnie Vincent (then known as Vincent Cu
EXTD=sano) penned "Tears" that is the stella highlight. This is the be
EXTD=st songs Peter has put his vocals too bar non, and could have bee
EXTD=n with some push a radio hit. One assumes this song was recommend
EXTD=ed to Criss by the label during the early recording sessions for
EXTD=the masked ones "Creatures" opus. Indeed "Feel Like Heaven" was p
EXTD=enned by Gene Simmons although that song feels as if it were deri
EXTD=ved from the "Unmasked" and "Dynasty" eras and is nowhere near as
EXTD= good. "First Day In The Rain" is sublime too both emotive and at
EXTD=mospheric being a dreamy ballad no way insipid in inspiration lik
EXTD=e "Beth". The title track "Let Me Rock You" is fifties doo wop an
EXTD=d is kitchy but likeable too, reminding me a little of Billy Joel
EXTD='s 'Uptown Girl'. The closer of "Bad Boys" is an obvious nod to t
EXTD=he Stones and is possibly the best Criss penned number to date. O
EXTD=bviously ignored by a label and a record buying public who had ou
EXTD=t grown Kiss let alone the ex drummer, it is a real shame because
EXTD= "Let Me Rock You" was accessible pop rock with a slight eighties
EXTD= feel that deserved huge sales. Certainly more accessible than ev
EXTD=er before.\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nLet Me Rock You is a
EXTD=real surprise from The Catman., May 29, 1998\nReviewer: A music f
EXTD=an\nSpeaking as a flaming heterosexual male, Peter Criss is NOT a
EXTD= handsome man. The picture chosen for the cover of Let Me Rock Yo
EXTD=u is absolutely awful! Peter's hair looks like he hasn't bathed i
EXTD=n weeks, his beard is a poor excuse for facial hair and his right
EXTD= eye seems to be looking at something different than his left eye
EXTD=. All vanity aside (remember: Don't judge a book by its cover!),
EXTD=Let Me Rock You is a slightly weaker album than 1980's Out of Con
EXTD=trol. The songs are much more polished and commercial than those
EXTD=found on Out of Control. Let It Go is a keyboard-heavy track that
EXTD= tries to rock but just doesn't get off the ground. Sure it's cat
EXTD=chy but as far as being a good song....that's iffy. Tears, a song
EXTD= written by KISS' savior Vincent Cusano (AKA Vinnie Vincent), is
EXTD=surprisingly slow-paced. Vinnie is known for his good rockers (I
EXTD=Love It Loud, Young and Wasted, Lick It Up and Unholy, especially
EXTD=) but this piece of pop piffle sure veers away from his usual oeu
EXTD=vre. Move On Over is easily the best song on the album. A great g
EXTD=roove, an above average vocal from Peter, good stuff! Next up is
EXTD=Peter's cover of the John Lennon classic, Jealous Guy. I'm sorry
EXTD=to say that Peter does not do justice to the song. He seems off-t
EXTD=une a good deal of the time and the insturmentation is much too h
EXTD=eavy. It almost sounds like an Elton John song! Destiny follows a
EXTD=nd gets the album back on track again. This is a good song with a
EXTD= very catchy chorus and some decent guitar licks. Some Kinda Hurr
EXTD=icane opens with a great guitar which continues on through the so
EXTD=ng. This is more of the kind of song I would expect to come out o
EXTD=f Vinnie Vincent than Tears! Let Me Rock You has a do-wop feel to
EXTD= it that is reminiscent of the 1950's. It is a good song with a c
EXTD=atchy chorus and a decent bass line. Future Billy Idol guitarist
EXTD=Steve Stevens wrote First Day In The Rain, a slower song with a g
EXTD=ood guitar solo as its centerpiece. Feel Like Heaven, written by
EXTD=The Demon himself, Gene Simmons, is runne! r-up for best song on
EXTD=Let Me Rock You. A smokin' lead guitar backed by a snappy rhythm
EXTD=section and good vocal outing. Good work, Gene! The album's close
EXTD=r is Bad Boys which has a country-feel to it. The song itself isn
EXTD='t particularly good but it has a very unique sound. Let Me Rock
EXTD=You is the second of Peter Criss' post-KISS solo efforts. After t
EXTD=his album, we would not hear of Peter on record for almost 5 year
EXTD=s. It's too bad that he got caught up in the fiasco that was happ
EXTD=ening with the shift from Casablanca Records to Phonogram because
EXTD= these are both good albums that I believe would have been much b
EXTD=etter received had they been marketed properly. As far as the mus
EXTD=ic goes, I believe that Peter made a poor choice in bringing in s
EXTD=o many outside writers. He only has writing credit on 2 of the 10
EXTD= songs on the entire album. Had he stuck with his own material, I
EXTD= think Let Me Rock You would have been a more jointed effort rath
EXTD=er than the mishmash of writing styles exhibited here. The album
EXTD=is very good nonetheless and should definitely be given a chance.
