EXTD=streaking across the sky, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan's time here
EXTD= was snuffed out far too quickly. Although other posthumous compi
EXTD=lations have honored his legacy, including a pair of GREATEST HIT
EXTD=S collections and a number of live releases, THE ESSENTIAL serves
EXTD= as a lighter alternative to the heftiness of the SRV box set. Va
EXTD=uhan was blessed with a distinct tone and a versatility on guitar
EXTD= that often found him going from bending strings just short of br
EXTD=eaking to lightly playing with the delicacy of a baby's touch, of
EXTD=ten within the same song. This two-CD set does a fine job of repr
EXTD=esenting the late legend's broad range. \n\n\nAlways generous in
EXTD=crediting his myriad of influences, (Double Trouble's name was ta
EXTD=ken from an Otis Rush song), SRV ended up coveringartists ranging
EXTD= from Buddy Guy ("Mary Had A Little Lamb"), Earl King ("Come On [
EXTD=Part III]"), and Hank Ballard ("Look At Little Sister") to Jimi H
EXTD=endrix ("Little Wing") and close friend Doyle Bramhall ("Change I
EXTD=t"). Live, Vaughan's might was equally impressive, and he still a
EXTD=stounds with a segment of his breakthrough 1982 Montreux performa
EXTD=nce ("Rude Mood/Hide Away") along with in-concert versions of "Su
EXTD=perstition" and "Voodoo Child [Slight Return]". YEAR: 2002
