EXTD= REVIEW: The Show Must Go On offers a definitive collection of Sa

EXTD=REVIEW\nA music fan\nThis has to be the very best collection of L
EXTD=eo Sayer's songs for all of his many fans out there. It includes
EXTD=all of his biggest hits, such as When I Need You, Moonlighting, H
EXTD=ave You Ever Been In Love?, Orchard Road, One Man Band, The Show
EXTD=Must Go On, More Than I Can Say and of course, You Make Me Feel L
EXTD=ike Dancing. However, these big hits are invariably available on
EXTD=numerous single disc (and cheaper) collections, which may be more
EXTD= appropriate for the casual fan. The real bonuses here are the le
EXTD=sser-knowm gems, such as Train, Endless Flight, Oh Girl, Streets
EXTD=of Your Town, and Where Did We Go Wrong, which make the higher pr
EXTD=ice worthwhile. Whether you're in the mood to dance or to relax a
EXTD=nd listen to some brilliant ballads (contrast You Make Me Feel Li
EXTD=ke Dancing with When I Need You, for instance), this disc offers
EXTD=something for everyone. Buy it and enjoy!\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOME
EXTD=R REVIEW\nTuneful and classy pop songs, December 30, 2004\nReview
EXTD=er: Joburgpete "irridium" (Johannesburg)\n\nLeo Sayer was an acco
EXTD=mplished singer and composer who had a 10-year span of hits in th
EXTD=e UK from 1973 to 1983 and also occasionally broke through on the
EXTD= Billboard Hot 100. His first hit was the spectacular The Show Mu
EXTD=st Go On, a cover version of which was a massive US hit for Three
EXTD= Dog Night. The follow-up was One Man Band, whilst the next one:
EXTD=Long Tall Glasses, made the top 10 in the USA in 1975. \n\nThe ne
EXTD=xt year, at the height of the disco era, You Make Me Feel Like Da
EXTD=ncing became one of Sayer's biggest hits on both sides of the Atl
EXTD=antic and was soon followed by When I Need You from the same Endl
EXTD=ess Flight album. Thunder In My Heart was a minor hit in the UK.
EXTD=More Than I Can Say and Living In A Fantasy were hits in 1980 and
EXTD= 1981 respectively, whilst Till You Come Back To Me was a minor U
EXTD=K hit in 1983. \n\nOf the 20 tracks on this superb album, these w
EXTD=ere not written or co-written by Sayer: I Can't Stop Loving You,
EXTD=Raining In My Heart, More Than I Can Say, Have You Ever Been In L
EXTD=ove, Heart, Till You Come Back To Me and Unchained Melody. To my
EXTD=knowledge, only about 11 of these tracks were chart hits in the U
EXTD=S or UK. So strictly speaking, this is more of a Best Of album th
EXTD=an 20 Greatest Hits. \n\nHis interpretations of songs like Heart
EXTD=(the Gibb Brothers) and Unchained Melody are quite good. Sayer al
EXTD=so wrote Roger Daltrey's hit song Giving It All Away, and it woul
EXTD=d have been interesting to have his original included on this CD.
EXTD= 20 Greatest Hits is a great album of tuneful, classy and occasio
EXTD=nally soulful pop music. \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nAll th
EXTD=e essentials, April 19, 2005\nReviewer: P D Harris "Pete the musi
EXTD=c and horse racing fan" (Leicester England)\n \nLeo first
EXTD= achieved success as a songwriter when Roger Daltrey had a UK top
EXTD= five hit in 1973 with Giving it all away, co-written by Leo. He
EXTD=soon got a recording contract and released a single (Why is every
EXTD=body going home) that flopped and is not included here. \n\nLeo e
EXTD=ntered the UK charts at end of 1973 with his second single, The s
EXTD=how must go on, which made number two in the UK. Three Dog Night
EXTD=covered the song and had an American hit with it so Leo's origina
EXTD=l was not released in America. Leo's next single, One man band, m
EXTD=ade the UK top ten while Three Dog Night covered the song for the
EXTD= American market. I guess this was sweet revenge for American art
EXTD=ists, who had so often seen their songs covered by British artist
EXTD=s in the sixties. While it may have been frustrating for Leo, it
EXTD=did at least prove that his songs appealed to American record buy
EXTD=ers and may have helped to create awareness of him in the industr
EXTD=y. \n\nLeo made the UK top five with Long tall glasses, which fin
EXTD=ally gave him an American hit of his own. His next single, Moonli
EXTD=ghting, made number two in the UK. There was a gap of several mon
EXTD=ths (during which I think there was a failed single) before You m
EXTD=ake me feel like dancing returned Leo to the UK charts - it also
EXTD=made number two in the UK and went on to sell a million copies in
EXTD= America, where it made number one. \n\nLeo finally had a UK numb
EXTD=er one with When I need you, which became his second American num
EXTD=ber one. It now seemed that Leo was on a roll but history shows t
EXTD=hat this was the pinnacle of Leo's career. He made the UK top ten
EXTD= four more times, with How much love, I can't stop loving you tho
EXTD=ugh I try, More than I can say (a cover of the Bobby Vee that gav
EXTD=e Leo his fourth UK number two hit) and Have you ever been in lov
EXTD=e. \n\nLeo had lesser UK hits with Thunder in my heart, Raining i
EXTD=n my heart (a cover of Buddy Holly's classic), Heart stop beating
EXTD= in time, Orchard road, Till you come back to me and Unchained me
EXTD=lody. \n\nThis compilation includes all of Leo's major hits (a fe
EXTD=w minor UK hits are missing), together with his recording of Givi
EXTD=ng it all away. As such, it contains all the tracks that most peo
EXTD=ple are looking for.\n\n\nHalf.com Album Notes\nRecorded between
EXTD=1973 and 1984.\nIncludes liner notes by Paul Grein.
