EXTD=Christmas Peace - Disc 2 of 2\n2003 RCA/BMG Records\n\nOriginally
EXTD= Released November 4, 2003\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: You have to hand
EXTD= it to the folks at BMG -- more than 25 years after the passing o
EXTD=f Elvis Presley, they've yet to run out of ways to recycle his ba
EXTD=ck catalog, and just in time for the 2003 holiday season, along c
EXTD=omes Christmas Peace, still another repackaging of Presley's seas
EXTD=onable material. Disc one of this two-CD set collects the same 20
EXTD= Yuletide selections that appeared on the seemingly definitive If
EXTD= Every Day Was Like Christmas collection in 1994, minus the alter
EXTD=nate takes that appeared as bonus cuts. This represents nearly th
EXTD=e entire Presley Christmas canon, this time in chronological orde
EXTD=r, with the 1957 Christmas sessions for the most part outshining
EXTD=the slicker but less sincere 1971 cuts, though the loose and surp
EXTD=risingly gritty take on Charles Brown's "Merry Christmas Baby" ce
EXTD=rtainly kicks up the cool factor a few notches. Disc two presents
EXTD= 20 tunes from Elvis' gospel and inspirational sessions, and whil
EXTD=e most rock fans tend to shy away from this material, the truth i
EXTD=s this ranks with Presley's most impassioned and committed materi
EXTD=al. No matter how far Elvis may have strayed from the Baptist fai
EXTD=th of his childhood in his lifestyle, when listening to these rec
EXTD=ordings it's obvious that this music still spoke to his heart and
EXTD= soul throughout his life, and while this material sure doesn't r
EXTD=ock, anyone who loves Elvis as an emotive artist can't help but b
EXTD=e moved by his power and sincerity on "Peace in the Valley" or "M
EXTD=ansion Over the Hilltop," and this is a fine introduction to his
EXTD=gospel sessions. If you're an avid Presley collector, you doubtle
EXTD=ss have everything in this set, which boasts no unreleased (or es
EXTD=pecially hard to find) material, but the packaging is fine and th
EXTD=e remastering clean and pleasing to the ear, making it a better t
EXTD=han average starting place for someone wanting to study Elvis' en
EXTD=thusiastic relationship with both Santa Claus and his Savior. --
EXTD=Mark Deming\n\nHalf.com Album Notes\nPersonnel: Elvis Presley (vo
EXTD=cals); The Jordanaires, Mille Kirkham, The Imperials Quartet, Jun
EXTD=e Page, Dolores Edgin, Charlie Hodge.\n\nCompilation producers: E
EXTD=rnst Mikael Jorgensen, Roger Semon.\n\nRecorded between 1957 & 19
EXTD=73. \n\nIncludes liner notes by Ernst Mikael Jorgensen and Roger
EXTD=Semon.\n\nWhether or not you're an aficionado of Christmas music,
EXTD= it's difficult to deny the effectiveness of Elvis Presley's nume
EXTD=rous ventures into that area. The two-disc CHRISTMAS PEACE is pre
EXTD=tty much your one-stop-shop for Elvis Christmas tunes; the first
EXTD=disc focuses on secular holiday tunes, while the second is based
EXTD=around the gospel tunes that were such a major part of Elvis's mu
EXTD=sical background. On the secular front, you can't do better than
EXTD=the original bummed-out holiday lament "Blue Christmas," or the g
EXTD=reat blues tune "Merry Christmas Baby." Elvis digs into the spiri
EXTD=tual tunes with all the vigor of a true believer, giving the like
EXTD=s of "(There'll Be) Peace in the Valley for Me" and "Amazing Grac
EXTD=e" his all. Needless to say, Elvis's all merits plenty of attenti
EXTD=on.
