EXTD=iginally Released 1967\nRemastered + Expanded CD Edition Released
EXTD= June 19, 2001\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: After a two-year hiatus from
EXTD= the Las Vegas casino circuit to appear on Broadway in Golden Boy
EXTD=, Sammy Davis, Jr.'s triumphant return was commissioned by none o
EXTD=ther than Reprise Records' boss -- one Francis Albert Sinatra. Th
EXTD=at's All is a living testament to the omni-talented entertainer.
EXTD=On the two-CD set, Rhino Records has retrofitted the original rel
EXTD=ease with a pair of previously unissued performances -- "Rock-A-B
EXTD=ye Your Baby With a Dixie Melody" and the theme song to My Mother
EXTD= the Car. Parties curious for the sensation of what it must have
EXTD=been like in a major Vegas showroom during the reign of the Rat P
EXTD=ack need look no further than That's All. It becomes clear why Da
EXTD=vis became so endearing to not only Sinatra and Dean Martin, but
EXTD=also to anyone who simply loved to be entertained. His versatilit
EXTD=y is genuine -- as opposed to an actor who tries to sing or vice
EXTD=versa. This allowed for Davis' persona to present amazing hues of
EXTD= intensity without ever losing his irreverent sense of laid-back
EXTD=hip. Examples of the innate sense of timing and dramatic abilitie
EXTD=s that Davis brandishes are evident throughout. On the Mercer/Arl
EXTD=en standard "Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home," as well as through
EXTD=out the medleys featured on disc one, listeners hear the grace an
EXTD=d panache that would set the standard for all the imitations that
EXTD= followed. The various spoken "Monologue" pieces, which comfortab
EXTD=ly date the performance, are another treat. The political incorre
EXTD=ctness in Davis' dialogue is a reminder that, no matter how much
EXTD=things may change, they also remain the same -- such as the immen

EXTD=led him Mr. Entertainment, March 23, 2003\nReviewer: Daniel Jolle
EXTD=y "darkgenius" (Shelby, North Carolina USA)\nIt's 1965, and Sammy
EXTD= has returned to the famous Sands Hotel in Las Vegas after a two-
EXTD=year hiatus performing Golden Boy on Broadway. This remarkable re
EXTD=cording, finally released on CD a few years ago, gives the listen
EXTD=er an amazing opportunity to hear Sammy the performer at his best
EXTD=. It is impossible to truly appreciate the magic of Sammy's act w
EXTD=ithout being able to actually watch him perform on stage, but thi
EXTD=s two-disc live recording is easily the next best thing. Sammy di
EXTD=d much more than simply sing songs; he joked, did impersonations,
EXTD= told stories, generally goofed around, whatever it took to make
EXTD=everyone in the audience come under his spell, and it is this ext
EXTD=raneous material that makes this recording extra special to Sammy
EXTD= fans. As he told the audience at one point, "if you want to hear
EXTD= me sing serious, you're going to have to buy my records." There
EXTD=are actually surprisingly few show-stoppers to be found here: Roc
EXTD=k-A-Bye Your Baby With a Dixie Melody, The Lady is a Tramp, The B
EXTD=irth of the Blues, As Long As She Needs Me, What Kind of Fool Am
EXTD=I. Instead, you get a fascinating mix of songs hard to find elsew
EXTD=here. One extraordinary medley of songs, performed to the sole ac
EXTD=companiment of Michael Silva's tom tom drums, includes snippets f
EXTD=rom such diverse tunes as I've Got You Under My Skin, Dang Me, Bi
EXTD=g Bad John, The Girl From Ipanema, and Hello Dolly. There's a won
EXTD=derful Broadway medley consisting of songs such as Lonesome Road,
EXTD= Gonna Build a Mountain, I Want to Be With You (from Golden Boy),
EXTD= and Sammy's first recorded song Hey There. \nThe first CD is mos
EXTD=t notable for its humor and monologue. Sammy's monologue, in fact
EXTD=, lasts almost ten full minutes and is quite personal and extreme
EXTD=ly hilarious. Sammy opines on the nature of Las Vegas, engages in
EXTD= a lot of self-deprecating humor about his race and religion, and
EXTD= informs the audience, some ten or fifteen minutes into the show,
EXTD= that the gig is actually being recorded for release as a live al
EXTD=bum on Sinatra's Reprise records. Disc One ends with a bonus trac
EXTD=k not included on the album's initial release in the 1960s, Sammy
EXTD='s theme song for the ill-fated Jerry Van Dyke television show My
EXTD= Mother the Car. On Disc Two, Sammy gets down to the business of
EXTD=singing and swinging as only he could do it, but there is still a
EXTD= lot of humor left to unleash upon the audience. Traditionally, t
EXTD=he most famous vehicle for Sammy's immensely dead-on impersonatio
EXTD=ns is Rock-A-Bye Your Baby, and it is actually a real treat of so
EXTD=rts to hear him sing this song all the way through in his own voi
EXTD=ce, but on this night Sammy chose a song written for Fred Astaire
EXTD= but made famous by Frank Sinatra to showcase his impersonation s
EXTD=kills. On One For My Baby (And One More For the Road), Sammy impe
EXTD=rsonates Astaire and, amazingly, Sinatra himself, as well as Hump
EXTD=hrey Bogart, James Cagney, Jimmy Stewart, Carey Grant, W.C. Field
EXTD=s, Marlon Brando, Dean Martin, and Jerry Lewis. No one has ever d
EXTD=one Grant, Stewart, and Dino as uncannily as Sam the Man did.\n\n
EXTD=This remarkable live recording is really for all the Sammy fans o
EXTD=ut there. Those unfamiliar with Sammy's personality and unique st
EXTD=yle of swinging may not warm up to Sammy's antics and may well mi
EXTD=sinterpret Sammy's frequent jokes about race and religion, althou
EXTD=gh Sammy does make clear to the audience that he is really just m
EXTD=aking jokes about himself and is in no way trying to invade the p
EXTD=rivacy of the audience. It doesn't take much of a discerning ear
EXTD=to clearly understand that the live audience is incredibly entert
EXTD=ained, eating up every antic Sammy engages in. I love this CD, bu
EXTD=t it really doesn't showcase Sammy the immaculate singer as much
EXTD=as it does Sammy the world's greatest entertainer. A perfect exam
EXTD=ple of this fact is the next to last track which features over ei
EXTD=ght minutes of a jam session with Buddy Rich on drums and Sammy o
EXTD=n the vibraphone. With George Rhodes conducting the orchestra, th
EXTD=e talented Michael Silva on drums, and a guest spot by the world'
EXTD=s greatest drummer Buddy Rich, this live show gives us almost 100
EXTD= minutes of Mr. Entertainment at his most entertaining best.\n\n\n
EXTD=AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nSammy is ALL THAT and that's all!, Au
EXTD=gust 5, 2003\nReviewer: D. Janelle (Stephens City, VA USA)\nLike
EXTD=another reviewer, this album is a hard-wired childhood memory. It
EXTD= was ostensibly my Mom's record, but my sister and I probably lis
EXTD=tened to it more that Mom did. After dozens (hundreds?) of listen
EXTD=ings, the old vinyl records ended up in a box, never to be seen a
EXTD=gain, but oh, how those songs remained. Easily 20 years after las
EXTD=t hearing Sammy perform these standards, it was his versions from
EXTD= this record I still had in my head. Finding this recording becam
EXTD=e a quest, and now it's paid off. It's absolutely amazing to me h
EXTD=ow much of this 2-disc set I could still sing along to after all
EXTD=this time, including all the scat riffs. Can you say indelible?\n
EXTD=But enough about me, how 'bout the record (sorry, this one will *
EXTD=always* be a record to me, even if its on CD). In a word, phenomi
EXTD=nal. Sammy's range of material is astounding, and he moves betwee
EXTD=n moods and styles with an ease that no performer today can come
EXTD=close to matching. Every song (with the possible exception of the
EXTD= throw-away "My Mother the Car", added for this re-release) is li
EXTD=ke a gift Sammy gives to the audience. His care in respecting the
EXTD= songs is apparent, even when he's having fun with them (quoth Sa
EXTD=mmy, during a light-hearted rendition of Rock-a-bye Your Baby, "Y
EXTD=ou wanna hear me sing serious, you're gonna hafta buy my records!
EXTD="). Towards the end of the same disc, during the "Lonesome Road"
EXTD=medly he manages to shift from a very upbeat sampling of songs to
EXTD= a rendition of "I Want To Be With You" that absolutely breaks yo
EXTD=ur heart. Then two beats later, he's back to cracking jokes. \n\n
EXTD=In less talented hands, all this shifting-of-gears would probably
EXTD= be annoying, but in Sammy it comes across as a genuine desire to
EXTD= simply entertain. Listening to Sammy sing these songs is like wa
EXTD=tching a child pull out and play with each of his most beloved to
EXTD=ys. Though he's clearly in love with performing for the crowd, yo
EXTD=u get the feeling his performance would be every bit as passionat
EXTD=e if there were no-one else there. The man was and still is a tre
EXTD=asure, truly one of a kind. If you love Sammy, you must have this
EXTD= set. If you've never heard him, (too bad for you), buy this set,
EXTD= listen to it, and come to know why Sammy Davis Jr was one of the
EXTD= greatest all-around entertainers we've ever had. We miss you, Sa
EXTD=mmy!\n\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nPass da booze, baby. This
EXTD= CD rocks!, August 14, 2002\nReviewer: James Macfarlane (San Jose
EXTD=, CA United States)\nSammy hits on all cylinders for this 2 disk
EXTD=CD. CD number one is great, but things really start to wail on th
EXTD=e second. His talent, that was shadowed by Frank and Dean, really
EXTD= gleams in this 1965 recording at the Sands (now the Venetian for
EXTD= the youngsters). At 36, my mom would have been pregnant with me
EXTD=if she were there, but the talent and the nature of the man becom
EXTD=e so real in this recording that you can almost touch him. So dim
EXTD= the lights baby, crank it up, pour a martini, and let Sammy do w
EXTD=hat he did so well. Entertain you.\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIE

EXTD=f my fellow Sammy fans here, but I'll put my two cents in...Sammy
EXTD= hit The Sands like a million bolts of lightning and it's all her

EXTD= it's Sammy in all his glory, plus impromptu moments you just won

EXTD=on (Chicago, IL USA)\nI have been looking in vain for this record
EXTD= for years. My father bought the two-album set when it came out i
EXTD=n 1967 and I grew up listening to it -- constantly. I was so exci
EXTD=ted to see it was finally re-released, I ordered two copies immed
EXTD=iately (one for my dad!). I love to sing and I have hard-wired me
EXTD=mories of the lyrics of many standards from this album alone. I'm
EXTD= sorry -- this is coming off more like a sentimental gush than a
EXTD=proper review. But I just received my copies this morning, listen
EXTD=ing to it as I write this and am laughing with delight as the mem
EXTD=ories of the tunes and segues are coming back to me. I'm looking
EXTD=forward to sharing this with my son.\nHowever, on the musical tip
EXTD=: I agree; this is a must-have for any Sammy fan; a great intro.
EXTD=The band is happenin', Sammy is in fine voice. I've always felt t
EXTD=hat he is the most underrated of the infamous "Rat Pack". Incredi
EXTD=ble voice -- consummate entertainer. This album captures all of t
EXTD=hat, his humour, improvisation, impressions (dead-on Dean Martin)
EXTD=, and the flavor of Vegas in the Swingin' '60s. Many thanks to Rh

EXTD=, June 21, 2001\nReviewer: "wlafauce" (Belvidere, Il USA)\nThat's
EXTD= All is an excellent introduction to Sammy Davis, or an excellent
EXTD= addition to any Sammy collection. Unlike most of the other Sammy
EXTD= compilation CD's, That's All captures not only Sammy the singer,
EXTD= but Sammy the mimic, Sammy the comic and, Sammy the musician. Th
EXTD=e medley of drums and voice is a mixture both great singing and c
EXTD=omic interpretation. The monolouge brings the history of Las Vega
EXTD=s & race relations to life and, more importantly, its still funny
EXTD=. The jam session with Buddy Rich on drums and Sammy on the vibes

EXTD= by this breathtaking artist. And this one is a double-CD set!!!
EXTD=Rhino and Warner Bros. have done a great job with the re-masterin

EXTD=iginal liner notes and even the old Reprise "steamboat" logo on t
EXTD=he CD itself!! This album captures Sammy at the top of his game,
EXTD=as he runs through his own hits, versions of songs assoicated wit
EXTD=h other performers of the day and of course, his masterful impres
EXTD=sions. It's a wonder that Sammy didn't cause the late & lamented
EXTD=Sands to implode on this night. Also, the packaging features a pl

EXTD=(Remember that Frank had just released his 2 LP set "Sinatra @ th

EXTD=The finest thing to say overall about this recording is that Sam
