EXTD=ginally Released July 1972\nRemastered + Expanded CD Edition Rele
EXTD=ased May 23, 2006\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Emboldened by a huge hit
EXTD=and hanging with Lennon and Starr, Harry Nilsson was ready to let
EXTD= it all go when it came time to record a follow-up to Nilsson Sch
EXTD=milsson. The very title of Son of Schmilsson implies that it's a
EXTD=de facto sequel to its smash predecessor but, as always with Nils
EXTD=son, don't take everything at face value. Yes, he's back with pro
EXTD=ducer Richard Perry and he's working from the same gleefully melo
EXTD=dic, polished pop/rock territory as before, but this is an incred
EXTD=ibly schizoid record; an album by an enormously gifted musician d
EXTD=eciding that, since he's already becoming unhinged, he might as w
EXTD=ell indulge himself while he's at it. And, wow, are the results e
EXTD=ver worth it. Opening with a song to a groupie -- he sang his bal
EXTD=ls off, baby, he nearly broke the microphone -- and ending with a
EXTD=n ode to "The Most Beautiful World in the World," this record car
EXTD=eens all over the place, bouncing from one idea to another, punct
EXTD=uated with B-horror movie sound effects, bizarre humor, profanity
EXTD=, and belches. There are song parodies, seemingly straight piano
EXTD=ballads, vulgar hard rock, lovely love songs, and a cheerful sing
EXTD=along with retirees at an old folks home who all proclaim, "I'd r
EXTD=ather be dead than wet my bed." The sheer perversity of it all wo
EXTD=uld be fascinating, yet if that's all it had to offer, it'd merel
EXTD=y be a curiosity, the way his post-Pussy Cats records are. Instea
EXTD=d, this is all married to a fantastic set of songs that illustrat
EXTD=e what a skilled, versatile songsmith Nilsson was. No, it may not
EXTD= be the easiest album to warm to -- and it's just about the weird
EXTD=est record to reach number 12 and go gold -- but if you appreciat
EXTD=e Nilsson's musicality and weirdo humor, he never got any better.

EXTD=e\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nExcellent sounding remaster of H
EXTD=arry's terrific follow up to "NS", June 16, 2006\nReviewer: Wayne
EXTD= Klein "wtdk" (Fairfield, CA United States)\nAlthough it didn't s
EXTD=ell as well as "Nilsson Schmilsson" "Son of Schmilsson" was every
EXTD= bit the equal of its predecessor albeit wackier. As everyone els
EXTD=e has reported the remaster sounds great--it's even better than t
EXTD=he Japanese import I paid top dollar for a couple of years ago--w
EXTD=ith bonus tracks. Curtis Armstrong ("Moonlighting") a committted
EXTD=Harryhead co-produced and wrote the booklet with plenty of commen
EXTD=ts from surviving participants (and Harry via older interviews).
EXTD=From Ray Cooper to Chris Spedding we get an idea as to how the se
EXTD=ssions went. Although Harry and producer Richard Perry didn't get
EXTD= on quite as well here as the previous album (Harry was in the mi
EXTD=ddle of a messy divorce which had an impact on this album. It too
EXTD=k a while for him to recover)Perry and Harry still managed to cre
EXTD=ate a great album. \n\nThe four bonus tracks (one is unlisted and
EXTD= starts a few seconds after the single version of "Daybreak" ends
EXTD=)includes an alternate take of "Take 54", a Perry produced versio
EXTD=n of "What's Your Sign?" (which would show up on another Harry al
EXTD=bum), "Camp De Encino" written by Jimmy Webb (it is presented wit
EXTD=h just Harry singing and playing piano), the single version of "D
EXTD=aybreak" and the off-the-cuff bonus track where Harry riffs backe
EXTD=d by his band. \n\nThis is a terrific reissue and well worth payi
EXTD=ng the extra $$ for as the sound has been improved and the bonus
EXTD=tracks are a marked improvement over the import version.\n\n\nAMA
EXTD=ZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nA Gift From Harry, May 23, 2006\nReviewe
EXTD=r: R. Greene (Winnetka, CA USA)\nFirst off, the sound quality on
EXTD=this remastered disc is simply stunning. Clear, crisp, you can he
EXTD=ar instruments and backing vocals that have always been buried on
EXTD= past versions. Not quite as good as "Nilsson Schmilsson", this i
EXTD=s still a great Nilsson, probably his last truly great album befo
EXTD=re he destroyed his voice (although "Knnillssonn" was almost a fu
EXTD=ll return to form). But the real gift here are the bonus tracks.
EXTD=Kudos to RCA for giving fans a real gift from Harry - two GREAT t
EXTD=racks in "What's Your Sign" and "Campo De Encino". How wonderful,
EXTD= all these years after Harry left us (FAR too soon) to get two ne
EXTD=w Nilsson songs that are of such high quality. And there's even a
EXTD=n extra funny unreleased song at the very end... so when "Daybrea
EXTD=k" is over, keep listening!\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nPure
EXTD= Harry, July 19, 2006\nReviewer:Kevy Nova "http://www.myspace.com
EXTD=/novarocks" (San Francisco Bay, CA)\nAlthough this album never di
EXTD=d as well as Nilsson Schmilsson, I think it is a much better Nils
EXTD=son album. There are fewer covers (only one) and the original son
EXTD=gs are unbelievably good. This album is essential for even the mo
EXTD=st casual listeners, although I can see why certain people were t
EXTD=urned off by it. As Harry's producer says in the liner notes, Har
EXTD=ry would take the most pop sounding, radio friendly songs and thr
EXTD=ough in lyrics that would gaurantee no radio station would play t
EXTD=hem. It was as if Harry was trying to avoid stardom! But the song
EXTD=s are still incredible. Harry's voice is incredible and having Ge
EXTD=orge Harrison and Ringo playing on it is just the icing on a very
EXTD= sweet cake!\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nHis Best, December
EXTD=12, 2002\nReviewer: Randy Arco (Atlanta, GA)\nTo me, this is the
EXTD=best work Harry Nilsson ever did. There isn't a close second. Thi
EXTD=s is it. I love Harry Nilsson and I hate Harry Nilsson. This alb
EXTD=um represents everything I love about the man. This album was rec
EXTD=orded before he lost his mind and became a complete imbecile. \n\n
EXTD=A few records later and you got "The Flying Saucer Song". A few r
EXTD=ecords before and you got "Good Old Desk". In between, you get th
EXTD=is classic.\n\nIn the beginning there was a bank teller named Har
EXTD=ry. He wrote a few good songs and a lot of bad ones. One of his s
EXTD=ongs was "Cuddly Toy", a song that was just oh-so-cute. Harry wro
EXTD=te a lot of songs that were just oh-so-cute and got a record cont
EXTD=ract. Harry though he himself was just oh-so-cute. Harry Nilsson
EXTD=was the luckiest SOB on this plannet. This was before Harry chang
EXTD=ed from being oh-so-cute to what-a-bunghole. \n\nHis first couple
EXTD= of albums were liked by the critics but ignored by the public. T
EXTD=he Beatles liked him, which helped a lot. Then he recored "Everyb
EXTD=ody's Talkin'" and the public came around.\n\nI'm giving this bri
EXTD=ef history because Harry had talent but was so smitten with himse
EXTD=lf that a lot of his work is, in my mind, unlistenable. Some of h
EXTD=is later RCA projects were miserable. \n\nBut this one, smack dab
EXTD= in the middle of his career, a career he stupidly threw away, is
EXTD= a masterpiece.\n\nHarry was actually funny in this one. Harry's
EXTD=later stabs at humor fell flat- no make that fell F-L-A-T- but he
EXTD=re he's got a good producer, Richar Perry, who undoubtedly wasn't
EXTD= afraid to tell Big Headed Harry when something wasn't working.\n
EXTD=\nSo I love this incarnation of Nilsson.\n\nIt is indeed his best
EXTD=- only to be followed up by some of the most worthless ever relea
EXTD=sed by anyone- and that includes Kathie Lee!\n\nHarry passed away
EXTD= some years ago. What a shame. He was never able to regain past g
EXTD=lories. Hope this serves as a warning sign to other artists- don'
EXTD=t let your ego get in the way of your music.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOM
EXTD=ER REVIEW\nThis Voice Is Not A Joke, June 19, 2001\nReviewer: Mar
EXTD=tin A Hogan "Marty From SF" (San Francisco, CA.)\nHarry Nilsson r
EXTD=eleased this album in 1972 immediately after his immensely popula
EXTD=r Nilsson Schilsson. It is Harry's tongue-in-cheek-response the t
EXTD=he folks who fell in love with his previous songs. All the songs
EXTD=are meticulously recorded and mixed, but hilariously shocking whe
EXTD=n you are listening to "You're Breakin' My Heart" and hear Harry
EXTD=singing, "..." and other notable phrases. Comforting the listener
EXTD= back to serious, romantic nostalgia with, "Remember Christmas",
EXTD=Harry only continues to knock out the hilarious lyrics on the res
EXTD=t of the album. It doesn't matter as his voice has such an immens
EXTD=e range and endearing quality, he proves he can sing anything he
EXTD=darn well wants and you will love it. Without lyrics, this collec
EXTD=tion would still be marvelous, but how can you stop from laughing
EXTD= with lyrics like, "Roy, I'm gonna make you my joy boy", or the c
EXTD=horal backing of geriatrics singing "I'd Rather Be Dead" ('than w
EXTD=et my bed'). Listen carefully to the end of "The Most Beautiful W
EXTD=orld In The World". You'll ...! Harry had a great sense of humor,
EXTD= but his voice was the true prize. This Import has piano and guit
EXTD=ar versions of "Joy", which may or not detract from the album, bu
EXTD=t who cares? Have fun. Listen to that incredible voice, no matter
EXTD= what it says.
