EXTD=Here Came The Psychedelic Furs: B-Sides And Lost Grooves\nPsyched
EXTD=elic Furs\n1994 Columbia/Legacy\n\nOriginally Released October 25
EXTD=, 1994 \n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: As the title suggests, B-Sides & Lo
EXTD=st Grooves is a collection of Psychedelic Furs obscurities culled
EXTD= from throughout their career. Predectiably, some of the tracks f
EXTD=all flat, but the great majority of the album is engaging, make t
EXTD=he record a worthwhile complement to the group's first four album
EXTD=s.  -- Stephen Thomas Erlewine\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nVer
EXTD=y Good Collection, April 6, 2006\nReviewer: Ian Johnston "teknoko
EXTD=n" (Independence, MO USA)\nThe remixes alone are worth the price
EXTD=of admission for this disc of Psychedelic Furs' rarities and b-si
EXTD=des. However, if you want to delve a little deeper into the back
EXTD=catalog of the band and have an open mind to their less "commerci
EXTD=al" sounding material, this is a great CD for that, too. "Badman"
EXTD=, "Birdland", and the highly unusual version of "Mack the Knife"
EXTD=are standout tracks among the fare that was not used for the albu
EXTD=ms, but everything here is good and quite a notch above similar c
EXTD=ompilations for lesser bands. The Shep Pettibone remix of "Shock"
EXTD= is one that begs for the radio to be turned up to 11. Recommende
EXTD=d!\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nWell worth it, July 5, 2005\nRe
EXTD=viewer: trainreader (Montclair, N.J.)\nI always approach "B-Side"
EXTD= and rarities albums with a certain degree of skepticism, wonderi
EXTD=ng why the songs weren't included on the original studio albums.
EXTD=However, on this album, it is quite clear that the answer to that
EXTD= question is they should have been. The Cure-like "Badman" is a s
EXTD=uperb song, I really don't know why the band couldn't find room f
EXTD=or it somewhere. I also like "Aeroplane," "Birdland," and the unc
EXTD=haracteristic "I Don't Want to be Your Shadow." The Furs version
EXTD=of "Mack the Knife," has to be one of the most unusual covers of
EXTD=a standard ever made. \n\nAs far as the alternative cuts go, I ho
EXTD=nestly believe that the dance version of "Goodbye" is better than
EXTD= the original. The other alternative versions are quite listenabl
EXTD=e, although the eight minute version of "Heartbreak Beat," one of
EXTD= the bands best songs, seems excessive. "No Easy Street" is energ
EXTD=ized in this live version, and offers solid proof that the Furs w
EXTD=ere not only a great studio band. In conclusion, all those who co
EXTD=nsider themselves Psychedelic Furs fans, should have this album.\n
EXTD=\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\n"Beautiful Chaos", December 12, 200
EXTD=3\nReviewer: mwreview "mwreview" (Northern California, USA)\nCasu
EXTD=al fans of the Psychedelic Furs will probably want to pass on B-s
EXTD=ides and Lost Grooves for the title is exactly what it is. More s
EXTD=erious fans or those who want to start getting into the music of
EXTD=the Furs will appreciate this collection. With rare tracks and re
EXTD=mixes from 1982-88, there is not one filler or inferior song in t
EXTD=he bunch. All the non-LP B-sides are more than album worthy and t
EXTD=he remixes are excellent. Even the 7:20 "Shock" remix is worth on
EXTD=e's time. The live version of "No Easy Street" is wonderful.\nTo
EXTD=me, the real gems are the B-sides which start off this CD. "Aerop
EXTD=lane" (B-side to "Love My Way") is the epitome of the "beautiful
EXTD=chaos" of which Arthur Levy writes in the informative CD booklet.
EXTD= "Birdland" (B-side to "All That Money Wants") is as good as most
EXTD= of the tracks on any Furs album. "New Dream" (from the "Heartbre
EXTD=ak Beat" 12") is a nice, lounge-sounding song. My favorite, howev
EXTD=er, is "Badman" (from the promo "Should God Forget" 12"). "Badman
EXTD=" is a haunting rocker that is one of the best Furs songs I have
EXTD=ever heard. Finally, this CD was put together with much care, wit
EXTD=h release dates and sources for each track and a nice 7-page arti
EXTD=cle.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\n"Angels Don't Cry" makes it w
EXTD=orth it ..., March 19, 2001\nReviewer: A music fan\nUnlike *real*
EXTD= albums you can't listen to it cohesively in one listen as it is
EXTD=really a collection of songs from live tracks to remixes and oddi
EXTD=ties. Most songs are just different versions that would cater to
EXTD=the dnce or remix enthusiasts. But the real gem here is "Angels D
EXTD=on't Cry". This version is much better than the Midnight To Midni
EXTD=ght version and this song is one of their best tunes, musically s
EXTD=peaking. I don't know why this wasn't as well-promoted as a singl
EXTD=e as the other Furs songs. This is right up there with other Furs
EXTD= classics. Considering the cheap price of this CD, imagine you ar
EXTD=e buying an Angels Don't Cry single with all these bonus tracks.
EXTD=Then it will be worth it for you ...\n\nHalf.com Album Notes\nThe
EXTD= Psychedelic Furs include: Richard Butler (vocals); John Ashton (
EXTD=guitar); Tim Butler (bass); Vince Ely, Phil Calvert, Tommy Price
EXTD=(drums).\n\nProducers include: Todd Rundgren, Keith Forsey, David
EXTD= M. Allen, The Psychedelic Furs, Stephen Street.\n\nCompilation p
EXTD=roducer: Bob Irwin.\nIncludes liner notes by Arthur Levy.\n\nHERE
EXTD= CAME THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS collects 14 tracks initially released
EXTD=as flip sides to their singles and one, "Badman," from a promotio
EXTD=nal-only release. Naturally, for a group that lasted as long as t
EXTD=he Furs, this really only scrapes the surface of their copious ba
EXTD=cklog of material--however, what is here makes a surprisingly coh
EXTD=esive (and long, at more than 74 minutes) album. Of the tracks he
EXTD=re, six are remixes (in one way or another) of album tracks, two
EXTD=are live, and the rest are true b-sides, tracks recorded during t
EXTD=he album sessions but omitted for one reason or another.\nThe Fur
EXTD=s' b-sides collected here are unusually strong. In most cases, it
EXTD= is difficult to guess why they were left off of their respective
EXTD= albums--except for the predictably dancey "Another Edge" (which
EXTD=swipes a chunk of the lyrics to the Furs' "Alice's House") and a
EXTD=cover of the Weill/Brecht classic "Mack the Knife" (which, while
EXTD=a credible version, really wouldn't have fit on any of the band's
EXTD= albums). Standouts include a vicious dance mix of "Aeroplane," c
EXTD=omplete with a schizophrenic saxophone; "Badman," which is clearl
EXTD=y good enough to have been on BOOK OF DAYS; and a scorching Shep
EXTD=Pettibone remix of "Shock."
