EXTD= Edition Released March 28, 2000\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Having at
EXTD=last laid Roxy to bed with its final, intoxicatingly elegant albu
EXTD=ms, Ferry continued its end-days spirit with his own return to so
EXTD=lo work. Dedicated to Ferry's father, Boys and Girls is deservedl
EXTD=y most famous for its smash single "Slave to Love." With a gentle
EXTD= samba-derived rhythm leading into the steadier rock pace of the
EXTD=song, it's '80s Ferry at his finest, easy listening without being
EXTD= hopelessly soporific. As a whole, Boys and Girls fully establish
EXTD=ed the clean, cool vision of Ferry on his own to the general publ
EXTD=ic. Instead of ragged rock explosions, emotional extremes, and al
EXTD=l that made his '70s work so compelling in and out of Roxy, Ferry
EXTD= here is the suave, debonair if secretly moody and melancholic lo
EXTD=ver, with music to match. Co-producer Rhett Davies, continuing hi
EXTD=s role from the latter Roxy albums, picks up where Avalon left of
EXTD=f right from the slinky opening grooves of "Sensation." The range
EXTD= of people on the album is an intriguing mix, from latterday Roxy
EXTD= members like Andy Newmark and Alan Spenner to avid Roxy disciple
EXTD=s like Chic's Nile Rodgers. Everyone is subordinated to Ferry's o
EXTD=verall vision, and as a result there's not as much full variety o
EXTD=n Boys and Girls as might be thought or hoped. The album's bigges
EXTD=t flaw is indeed that it's almost too smooth, with not even the h
EXTD=int of threat or edge that Ferry once readily made his own. As so
EXTD=mething that's a high cut above the usual mid-'80s yuppie smarm m
EXTD=usic, though, Boys and Girls remains an enjoyable keeper that has
EXTD= aged well. -- Ned Raggett\n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nExtensi
EXTD=on of Avalon era Roxy sound, March 28, 2000 \nReviewer: wtdk from
EXTD= Fairfield, CA United States \nWhile not his best solo album, Bo
EXTD=ys and Girls extends the sound Ferry developed with Roxy Music. L
EXTD=ush, with melodic overtones that can be best described as hypnoti
EXTD=c, Ferry has tuned into the dance grooves common to the new roman
EXTD=tic movement of the time and come up with a winning album. The pa
EXTD=rade of session musicians makes the album sound a bit more generi
EXTD=c than both Ferry's work with Roxy and his earlier solo work. The
EXTD=re are a number of tracks that could have used a stinging Phil Ma
EXTD=nzanera solo or one of Andy Mackay's distinct sax solos to bring
EXTD=an edge to the material.\n\nLyrically obtuse at times (or perhaps
EXTD= impressionistic), this album puts the albums produced by the new
EXTD= romantic bands to shame (the only album that comes close is by A
EXTD=BC a Roxy clone that used the band's Manifesto/Avalon sound as it
EXTD=s blueprint). Ferry's familiar themes crop up throughout the albu
EXTD=m and, although lyrically less adventurous than some of Ferry's p
EXTD=revious work, the melodies and thundering arrangements add enough
EXTD= bite to make even the weakest song interesting.\n\nThe stand out
EXTD= tracks include the single Slave to Love (which is easily as good
EXTD= as anything Ferry wrote for Roxy) Windswept, Sensation and the h
EXTD=aunting, ominous title track. Ferry would further refine this sou
EXTD=nd with one of his best albums Bete Noire.\n\nThe sound quality i
EXTD=s an improvement over the Reprise edition issued some years back.
EXTD= The sound is richer with a warmth missing from the first edition
EXTD= of the CD (fairly close to the LP with more depth to the sound).
EXTD= Not much in the way of extras which is a problem. It would have
EXTD=been interesting to have some studio outtakes, demos or even the
EXTD=single written around this time for the film Legend (Is Your Love
EXTD= Strong Enough?) as bonus tracks. The CD booklet has the lyrics a
EXTD=nd but no notes on the making of the album. A bit of a disappoint
EXTD=ment after the recent reissues of classic albums by bands like Th
EXTD=e Kinks and Who. \n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nThe Enduring Rom
EXTD=ance of Boys and Girls, June 27, 2004 \nReviewer: tbrough from Sp
EXTD=ringfield, PA United States \nAlthough it may have taken Bryan F
EXTD=erry three years to make an album after the swan song of Roxy Mus
EXTD=ic's "Avalon," he picked up right where that album left off. "Nev
EXTD=er seem to touch, I didn't feel enough motivation," Ferry croons
EXTD=as "Boys and Girls" begins a slow burn through the sumptuous worl
EXTD=d of love and longing as few others can. Veering between desire (
EXTD="Don't Stop The Dance") and disillusionment (the title track), th
EXTD=is CD rates a close second in my top favorite Bryan Ferry solo al
EXTD=bums. \n\nIt also contains one of Ferry's most notorious songs, "
EXTD=Slave To Love." Most people probably heard it through a classic s
EXTD=cene in the psychogical/sexual drama "9 1/2 weeks." It certainly
EXTD=set the tone for the soon to be released "Boys and Girls" and als
EXTD=o gets my vote for one of the best shoulda-been hits of the eight
EXTD=ies. Ferry followed this album with his best solo album, "Bete No
EXTD=ir." My suggestion is to get them both, and throw "Avalon" on tha
EXTD=t stack if you don't have it already. \n\nAmazon.com Customer Rev

EXTD=Chadwick from Gdynia,Poland \n"Boys and girls" stands close to F
EXTD=erry's Roxy Music's "Avalon" in the terms of production and sound
EXTD=. But Bryan Ferry's solo album is much darker, introspective and e
EXTD=rotic.\n\n"Sensation","Windswept","Boys and girls" and famous "sl
EXTD=ave to love" got the really sensual atmosphere created with cold
EXTD=sound, layered guitars and Ferry's voice.\n\nthere are not many sy
EXTD=nths at all but still the atmosphere of it is freezing as the ice
EXTD= of antarctica. the remastered version offers much more sound var
EXTD=iety with more groovy bass and darker, lower sound.\ndefinitly the
EXTD= highlight of the album is haunting "Don't stop the game" which i
EXTD=s simply awesome melancholic song. Why not 5 stars? well, this alb
EXTD=um definitly sounds much better in the evening than in the light
EXTD=of day. also "a wasteland" which is only 1 minute long sounds a b
EXTD=it like some kind of filler.\n\n"Boys and girls" are a perfect al
EXTD=bum for evenings.Chill out,have a drink,lay down on your bed,turn

EXTD=om Atlanta, GA USA \nEven almost 20 years on this is still one o
EXTD=f the greatest recordings ever. Musically it has stood the test o
EXTD=f time and represents some of the strongest songs Bryan ever wrot
EXTD=e and recorded. Stylistically "Boys and Girls" picks right up whe
EXTD=re Roxy Music's "Avalon" left off with lush cinematic paeans to t
EXTD=he pursuit of love. Rhett Davies production is sumptuous, warm an
EXTD=d oh-so-well suited to Bryan's voice. Nothing here rocks too hard
EXTD= and yet it's still nice mid-tempo jazz inflected numbers with en
EXTD=ough beat to pulsate to but yet overall calm subdued and restrain
EXTD=ed. A good friend of mine jokingly called this the granddaddy of
EXTD=Chill Out records and they're not far from it. Perfect for coming
EXTD= down from a night of partying or as I call it the "ultimate make
EXTD= out record". And try not to sing along...I dare you! There is li
EXTD=terally not a dud track in the lot and the music washes over you
EXTD=like waves in the ocean, starting with "Sensation" and carrying o
EXTD=n through. It's hard to pick personal favorites as they're all so
EXTD= strong, but "Don't Stop the Dance" is a killer track, especially
EXTD= when Bryan coos about "footsteps in the dark, come together". In
EXTD= my humble opinion Bryan Ferry hands down has one of the sexiest
EXTD=voices ever and this is probably his sexiest recording. "Boys and
EXTD= Girls" is the equivalent of slipping into something more comfort
EXTD=able, taking the phone off the hook, pouring a nice glass of wine
EXTD=, kicking back and doing something you really enjoy. \n\nAmazon.c

EXTD= All But Name, August 23, 2000 \nReviewer: Paul Allaer from Cinci
EXTD=nnati \nRoxy Music issued "Avalon" in 1982 and despite its broad
EXTD= commercial success it was the last (studio) Roxy album. It becam
EXTD=e clear why, when 3 years later Roxy lead singer and composer Bry
EXTD=an Ferry issued "Boys and Girls", in all but name a straight sequ
EXTD=el to "Avalon" (the implication being that Avalon probably was fa
EXTD=r more a Ferry solo album than a true Roxy album--comparions to R
EXTD=oger Waters/Pink Floyd "The Final Cut" come to mind.) "Boys and G
EXTD=irls" continues the dreamy soundscapes from "Avalon", mixing up m
EXTD=ore upbeat, dance-oriented songs ("Don't Stop the Dance", "The Ch
EXTD=osen One" "Stone Woman") with slower songs ("Slave to Love" (whic
EXTD=h was the lead-off single), "Windswept", "Boys annd Girls"). And
EXTD=of course there is the short (1 min) "bridge song" (here "Wastela
EXTD=nd", like "India" on "Avalon"). While the album covers no new gro
EXTD=und, it still is the best Bryan Ferry solo album, because the sou
EXTD=nds are lush and deep, and the entire album (clocking in at 38+ m
EXTD=in) plays like one long dream-along song. In this remastered issu
EXTD=e, the sound quality is remarkably better than before. The CD als
EXTD=o contains the lyrics to the songs. Nevertheless I deck a star fr
EXTD=om my rating because there are no extra tracks such as single B-s

EXTD= Customer Review\nAn amazing album, an amazing remaster, April 8,
EXTD= 2000 \nReviewer: underworld from CA  \nBryan Ferry/Roxy Music fa
EXTD=ns seem to fall into two camps: those who prefer the "art-rock" e
EXTD=xperimentalism of Country Life and For Your Pleasure, and those w
EXTD=ho love the sleeker productions of Avalon-era Roxy. I firmly fall
EXTD= into the latter. This album, basically a further refinement of A
EXTD=valon's aesthetic, is a masterpiece. Naysayers will call it prete
EXTD=ntious, but this dark, incredibly seductive and romantic sets a m
EXTD=ood so intense and sensual you can only listen to it at night. Al
EXTD=ong with Avalon, it's the ultimate sex album.\n\nA technical note
EXTD= about this re-release: the remastering job is one of the best I'
EXTD=ve ever heard. Most remasters are just louder versions with a lit
EXTD=tle extra detail. This (along with the other BF reissues from Vir
EXTD=gin) has been remastered as a HDCD and sounds 1000 times better t
EXTD=han the orignal 80s release. There was a UK import re-release las
EXTD=t year which came in a tiny cardboard sleeve, (Roxy's back catalo
EXTD=g was also reissued this way). It was louder and more clear than
EXTD=before, but I don't think it was HDCD (wasn't marked with the HDC
EXTD=D logo anyway). This release is the version to get, no question.
EXTD=\n\nOn a regular CD player you will already hear way more detail
EXTD=and clarity, reduced tape hiss, and better soundstaging. On an HD
EXTD=CD equipped high end player with decent speakers, the sound quali
EXTD=ty becomes just phenomenal. There's wonderful air around the voca
EXTD=ls, the guitars lines "pop" more, and the 3D imaging and soundsta
EXTD=ging just become breathtaking. It is Boys and Girls the way Bryan
EXTD= Ferry truly intended it. \n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nHis bes
EXTD=t solo album so far, April 5, 2000 \nReviewer: Thomas Vaags from
EXTD=Norway \nIn my opinion, "Boys and Girls" is Bryan Ferry's best s
EXTD=olo album so far (in close competition with "Mamouna"). The songs
EXTD= are catchy, just as well as they are rich in musical sophisticat
EXTD=ion. A total of 30 musicians participate on this album, including
EXTD= the guitarists David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), and Mark Knopfler (Di
EXTD=re Straits). Still, the music is never overcrowded with sounds.\n
EXTD=\nThe album grows tremendously with repeated listening. You'll fi
EXTD=nd yourself discovering new things each time you play it. I would
EXTD= consider it to be essential listening for anyone who likes atmos
EXTD=pheric and groovy pop-music. \n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nFerr

EXTD=ler, AZ \nAfter collecting Bryan Ferry's post Roxy Music albums,
EXTD= this is definitely the best one! It contained the smash hit Slav
EXTD=e to Love which was included on the 9 1/2 Weeks soundtrack. Usual
EXTD=ly when an album includes a roster of artists contributing to ano
EXTD=ther artist's project it often ends up in the trash bin (...too-
EXTD=many -cooks- in- the- kitchen syndrome ); This is not the case at
EXTD= all with Ferry's 1985 post Roxy release. Many have compared Boys
EXTD= & Girls to his last Roxy Music masterpiece Avalon. True... Howev
EXTD=er, where Avalon was more romance, love, and ethereal fantasy, th
EXTD=is is more lust, atmospheric and global ambient with a more sombe
EXTD=r and darker, yet very much likeable and sophisticated feel. His
EXTD=next album Bete Noire (released in 1987) would try to continue in
EXTD= the same path. However, the album was heavily produced by Patric
EXTD=k Leonard who at the time had been producing for Madonna and vari
EXTD=ous other artists. Try playing Maddonna's True Blue album and Fer
EXTD=ry's Bete Noire and it doesn't take a trained ear to hear the ins
