EXTD=Originally Released July 13, 2004\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Metallica
EXTD= intended to sell their 2003 comeback album, St. Anger, with a se
EXTD=ries of infomercials by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, directo
EXTD=rs of the acclaimed documentaries Brother's Keeper and Paradise L
EXTD=ost. Bizarre as that failed plan sounds, what's even more bizarre
EXTD= is that those infomercials morphed into the feature-length film
EXTD=Some Kind of Monster (its title taken from an album track on St.
EXTD=Anger), which documented the making of St. Anger, including the g
EXTD=roup therapy sessions that helped the band pull back from the bri
EXTD=nk of breakup. All movies need a soundtrack, so one was cobbled t
EXTD=ogether to coincide with the release of the movie, but after hear
EXTD=ing Some Kind of Monster, it's hard not to wish that Metallica an
EXTD=d Elektra didn't bother. Barring an edit of the title track, ther
EXTD=e is absolutely no new material here: it opens with the full-leng
EXTD=th version of the title track, then delves into six live tracks r
EXTD=ecorded on June 11, 2003, in Paris, France (two songs apiece from
EXTD= Kill 'Em All and Master of Puppets and one from Ride the Lightni
EXTD=ng -- perhaps the emphasis on early Metallica is a tacit admissio
EXTD=n that St. Anger didn't live up to expectations). All six of thes
EXTD=e live tracks were on the international EP release Unnamed Feelin
EXTD=g, as well as B-sides for a multi-part international single of th
EXTD=e same name. So not only do hardcore fans already have this mater
EXTD=ial, but these songs have nothing to do with the making of St. An
EXTD=ger, which is what Some Kind of Monster is about! While there is
EXTD=some enjoyment in hearing James Hetfield speak a little French, t
EXTD=here's nothing particularly distinguished about these performance
EXTD=s, which -- while solid -- are essentially B-sides. Which means t
EXTD=his is a B-sides comp or international single masquerading as bot
EXTD=h a soundtrack and an official part of the Metallica discography,
EXTD= and on both levels it's a miserable failure, easily the shoddies
EXTD=t thing they've released.  -- Stephen Thomas Erlewine\n\nAmazon.c

EXTD=AZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nHow did this happen?, December 31, 2005
EXTD=\nA Kid's Review\nHow could Metallica take great songs like "Dama
EXTD=ge Inc." and "Ride the Lightning", from the early days, and massa
EXTD=cre them like this? They brought those sonic masterpieces all the
EXTD= way down to the level of the train wreck that was "St. Anger". J
EXTD=ames' weak and incoherent voice would have been acceptable if I h
EXTD=adn't listened to some of Metallica's other Live releases and KNO
EXTD=WN that he could have done better. And why the hell is Lars still
EXTD= banging on tin cans instead of a real percussion set? It was tha
EXTD=t kind of drumming that utterly destroyed "St. Anger", yet someho
EXTD=w Ulrich hasn't gotten the hint yet. \n\nIt's amazing. It's as if
EXTD= these guys were TRYING to obliterate their own songs. --Caboose

EXTD=e movement on piracy and copywrite laws you better damn well put
EXTD=a good album out . I'm not talking about two or three good songs
EXTD=either . As a consumer I'm entitled to know what I'm buying . If
EXTD=i knew the singing on this cd lacked any balls and the drums soun
EXTD=ded like someone beating on garbage cans i wouldnt have wasted my
EXTD= hard earned money on it . The setlist is great ...Motorbreath ,
EXTD=Hit the Lights , Damge Inc etc ...the execution stinks . This is
EXTD=fourth time Metallica has stolen money from me . Reload , St Ange

EXTD=\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nOld Live Metallica, August 5, 2005\n
EXTD=Reviewer: James Longstreet\nSome of the "Anti-Metallica" people o
EXTD=n here need to quiet down a bit. St. Anger wasn't anywhere close
EXTD=to their best showing at all- in fact I think it is there weakest
EXTD= album, but it is still strong. Every album is good, it's just a
EXTD=matter of how good. \n\nAdditionally, Metallica hasn't been dying
EXTD= since there "Load" album back in 1996. The Black Album was the t
EXTD=ransition album into a new realm of musical style and on "Load" a
EXTD=nd "Reload" they went a little further. The Black Album is one of
EXTD= the highest selling albums in rock history and there isn't a bad
EXTD= song on it. "Load" and "Reload" were respectable as well- how ca
EXTD=n you say King Nothing, Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, Until it Sleeps
EXTD=, Fuel, Devil's Dance, The Memory Remains, and the Unforgiven II
EXTD=are Metallica's slow death? I don't think so. I enjoy both the 80
EXTD='s Metallica and post Black Album- they are different sounds- but
EXTD= both great. \n\nOk- Now, for "Some Kind of Monster"- virtually a
EXTD= soundtrack to the DVD. It releases the St. Anger version of Some
EXTD= Kind of Monster, as well as an editted version. The rest of the
EXTD=songs are live from concerts in France in June of 2003. They are
EXTD=all old, 80's cuts, from Kill em All, Ride the Lightning, and Mas
EXTD=ter of Puppets. \n\nAll I have to say is: Those who think Metalli
EXTD=ca is burned out; listen to this album. \n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER R

EXTD=eg - See all my reviews \nMetallica has one of the greatest live
EXTD=sounds, and it is shown on this CD. Note: I would ignore the majo
EXTD=rity of the negative reviews here, with a few exceptions. Most of
EXTD= these come from ignorant people who probably haven't even listen
EXTD=ed to the album and want to give us a history lesson on Metallica
EXTD=. Most of the tracks are strong, with the best being Damage Inc a
EXTD=nd Ride the Lightning. Many of these tracks haven't been played f
EXTD=or years. The only down track is Some Kind of Monster. I only lik
EXTD=e a few tracks from St. Anger Album, and this is not one of them.
EXTD= \n\nTo respond to a few of the reviewers here.. Bring Jason News
EXTD=tead back? Are you kidding me? Rob Trujillo has a hundred times t
EXTD=he talent and skill that Jason Newstead would ever DREAM of havin
EXTD=g. The only thing missed from Jason is his backup vocals. Tin can
EXTD= drums? I have videos of most of Metallica performances... Lars u
EXTD=ses a NORMAL snare. In fact the snare he used in S&M is louder th
EXTD=an the one he uses now. And those of you who bitch about James He
EXTD=tfield's voice, if you put so much stock on vocals, go listen to
EXTD=some pop band. Want to disagree with me? That is cool with me, bu
EXTD=t talk to me, Ill gladly send you some really good live performan
EXTD=ces. But you probably wouldn't want to see them because you want
EXTD=to live in your "Metallica sucks - sellout" world and put your se
EXTD=nseless reviews on every album metallica releases from now on. Wh
EXTD=o are the real sellouts? \n\nSome of you people have formed a gru
EXTD=dge on Metallica and will never let go of it, no matter what they
EXTD= do. I agree that their later stuff doesn't hold a candle to thei
EXTD=r 80s stuff, but even if they release something that is actually
EXTD=GOOD, you will still write negatively writing irrelavent stuff ab

EXTD=lance "Cotton Hell" (Seattle, WA)\nYes, Metallica is dead. At lea
EXTD=st the Metallica I grew up with, the Metallica that could actuall
EXTD=y play good music. The band broke up in 1997 to settle certain is
EXTD=sues, like the Napster issue in 2001, and James Hetfield went to
EXTD=rehab. The band got back together, minus a decent bassist (Jason
EXTD=Newstead), and they decided to go all nu-metal and release a CD t
EXTD=hat completely sunk their ship. Yet in 2004, the documentary "Som
EXTD=e Kind Of Monster" was released, and this CD single was released
EXTD=with it. Metallica is dead. They were dying in 1996 with the dece
EXTD=nt "Load" already. What is even worse is that I am a complete idi
EXTD=ot and bought "St. Anger". I promise, I will buy "Master Of Puppe
EXTD=ts" really soon! \n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nA modest monster
EXTD=, February 9, 2005\nReviewer: George Margetas\nMetallica's latest
EXTD= album, Some Kind of Monster, will probably leave most fans with
EXTD=mixed impressions. It's fast tempo and mixed lyrics will have you
EXTD= either liking it, or hating it after listening to it for a while
EXTD=. This monster though can get very scary. \nSome Kind of Monster
EXTD=features six live songs preformed in Paris, the song "Some Kind o
EXTD=f Monster" from their previous album St. Anger, and an edited ver
EXTD=sion of it. The main catch to this album is, it contains some of
EXTD=Metallica's most unprepared songs, as well as some of their bette
EXTD=r tracks. "Some Kind of Monster" has some of the most distinct ly
EXTD=rics in the album, but is shadowed by it's repetitive and drawn o
EXTD=ut structure. Hetfield's voice goes well with the guitar, but at
EXTD=some points he sounds almost wounded, and is overtaken by the ins
EXTD=trumentals. This song did not need to be this long, getting to th
EXTD=e end of it is like trying to climb a mountain, there's nothing b
EXTD=ut jagged rocks on the way. The only other songs that I can fairl
EXTD=y give some serious negative criticism to are "Damage Inc." and "
EXTD=Motordeath". The lyrics to the first in no way fit the hasty and
EXTD=rushed impression the song delivers. The only good part to this s
EXTD=ong is it's guitar riff, which is something that most Metallica s
EXTD=ongs include, so it's nothing special. With "Motordeath" it was h
EXTD=ard to tell why they called it this, because for most of the song
EXTD= it's hard to tell what he is even saying. The generic drum beat
EXTD=and repeated riffs are just thrown together in another extremely
EXTD=fast song. Good thing, because it's so fast that it's over before
EXTD= you have a chance to get sick of it. \nThe main complaint among
EXTD=many fans is that the entire album features weak drumming, and un
EXTD=calculated lyrics. Though this is true for a few of the songs, ma
EXTD=ny of them are actually not that bad. "The Four Horsemen" houses
EXTD=a good blend of percussion and guitar, and the lyrics switch betw
EXTD=een following each. If anything, this song morphs enough times du
EXTD=ring its process that you can't get bored of it, which is in cont
EXTD=rast to some of the other more stale songs this album brings. "Le
EXTD=per Messiah" is another good live performance, with a crushing op
EXTD=ening, which slowly leads into the lyrical portion of the song. I
EXTD=t has a very defined beat, which doesn't change through the entir
EXTD=e song. One song receiving massive criticism because Hentfield fo
EXTD=rgot a portion of the lyrics at the end, "Ride the Lighting", is
EXTD=played and sang strongly. His comical insertion of replacement ly
EXTD=rics is reason enough to put the song in the album, and that's pr
EXTD=obably the reason it was included. "Ride the Lightning" is a clas
EXTD=sic, and even with the glitch, it is still a good addition. \nSom
EXTD=e fans are over critical in saying that Some Kind of Monster is t
EXTD=he worst album ever. This critic says otherwise, it has some hard
EXTD= moments but in all brings some good live versions of very metal
EXTD=songs, and with the album's lowered price, it doesn't hurt much t
EXTD=o invest in it. \n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nImpressive, but..
EXTD=., December 3, 2004\nReviewer: Grzegorz Lemanski "ironlemon" (Gda
EXTD=nsk, PL)\nMetallica couldn't have released anything worse than St
EXTD=. Anger. So the overall impression is much better than on the las
EXTD=t album. Great, ultra-fast songs and solos in live versions and l
EXTD=ooong title song (with solo missing :( ) with the shortened versi
EXTD=on for impatient ones. Minuses? Extremely poor drums (but slightl
EXTD=y better than on the St.A) and weaker voice of Hetfield (fortunat
EXTD=ely not all the time). But do you know who's performance is beati
EXTD=ng the other ones? The most criticized member of 'Tallica - Rob T
EXTD=rujillo has done his best. His Fernandes bass almost explodes fro

EXTD=TOMER REVIEW\nWhore, Metallica, Whore, November 6, 2004\nReviewer
EXTD=: The_Great_Southern_TrendkiLL (Naperville, IL)\nFurther proof th
EXTD=at Metallica is now owned by MTV and it's fantastic new age "fans
EXTD=," Metallic went ahead and released Some Kind Of Monster. An EP o
EXTD=f st. angry proportion that, quite simply, sucks. \n\nSome Kind O
EXTD=f Monster opens up with Some Kind Of Monster, and closes with the
EXTD= edited version of Some Kind Of Monster, which is only like half
EXTD=as long. Both equally suck, as neither have any derivations from
EXTD=the formula established by the song in the first two minutes. But
EXTD= that's okay, because this super awesome package also comes with
EXTD=a bunch of awesome live songs. \n\nThe song selection on this CD
EXTD=is ironic. It's ironic because these are all old songs. There are
EXTD= no Black Album songs, there are no ...And Justice For All songs.
EXTD= Just Kill 'Em All, Master Of Puppets and Ride The Lightning song
EXTD=s. That, in itself, is further proof that Metallica are sellouts,
EXTD= because now Metalliac doesn't even have the balls to put faith i
EXTD=n their own new music. But that's where problems start to surface
EXTD=. Metallica has retained the St. Anger sound/feel. And despite th
EXTD=e fact that Metallica called the sound on St. Anger an "experimen
EXTD=tal and non-permanent sound," they have failed to adjust. So, you
EXTD= get to listen to awesome classics like The Four Horsemen, Leper
EXTD=Messiah and Ride The Lightning, with Lar's awesome tin can drummi
EXTD=ng and Hetfields absolutely horrible singing. Hooray! \n\nFurther
EXTD= proof that Metallica buried their old sound is the fact that Het
EXTD=field forgot the lyrics on Ride The Lightning. And, while that ma
EXTD=y be funny for some, to me it just proves how unskilled of a musi
EXTD=cian he is. Improvisation is an important, if not essential skill
EXTD=, for live albums. \n\nSome Kind Of Monster is a waste of plastic
EXTD=, and a weak effort by Metallica. Metallica lost it with Load, th
EXTD=ey sold out with Reload, they dug their grave with St. Anger, and
EXTD= they just made their tombstone. \n\nThis CD is an absolute abomi
EXTD=nation, and should not be purchased by ANYONE that likes music. \n
EXTD=\nFor all you new-age 'tallica fans, whud up. Check out High_On_F
EXTD=ire or something. It kind of has that St. Anger heaviness to it b
EXTD=ut doesn't suck. It also has solos.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW
EXTD=\nCountry-tallica rides again YEEHA!, August 16, 2004\nReviewer:
EXTD=Jason "hammersmashedface" (Sin City)\nWhat kind of Monster? This
EXTD=song was the worst off of a terrible album, so they made it into
EXTD=an EP and the title track to their movie. This is a straight up c
EXTD=ountry song on a diarrhea complex album. James' voice is terrible
EXTD=, and when he attempts to scream he sounds like an old man going
EXTD=into a seizure! It's really, really bad, how do they get away wit
EXTD=h this? AND THERE'S A MOVIE! WTF?!? Who would pay to see a movie
EXTD=about touring senior citizens? The previews look so dramatic and
EXTD=over done this might as well be a special episode of 7th Heaven w
EXTD=ith a Honky Tonk band of aging hipsters. Their live performances
EXTD=have been in the decline for about 15 years now and this is just
EXTD=embarrassing. They should be hiding these live performances inste
EXTD=ad exploiting them. Rob thinks that just because he's in an old m
EXTD=an band he can slack off and just headbang to feedback and the sa
EXTD=me chord for an hour. That's extreme laziness right there, but I
EXTD=guess it's fitting for a band that hasn't released a good album s
EXTD=ince 1986. Why don't they just go and release an EP for every son
EXTD=g on the album, with the exact same live songs? Cheap musicianshi
EXTD=p is the name of the game for Metallica and this album is living
EXTD=proof. If you go to a local "used and new" record store, you'll s
EXTD=ee more returned copies of "St. Anger" and this EP than anything
EXTD=else there. But the band doesn't care because they already got th
EXTD=eir money. Why not go listen to real metal? Why would you buy the
EXTD= country pop sensation that is Metallica? The only "named feeling
EXTD=" this EP and the album give forth is "cheap". The fact that they
EXTD= made this record in about an hour, didn't even think about the l
EXTD=yrics or song structures and just knew people would eat it up bec
EXTD=ause it says "Metallica" on it. This is a disgrace to real heavy
EXTD=music. The death/hardcore metal scene rightfully wrote Metallica
EXTD=off because these guys are the biggest joke in music, they suck l
EXTD=ive (as this album proves) and they're even worse in the studio,
EXTD=stick with real music instead of this. Country-tallica needs to e
EXTD=ither retire of admit theu're a bunch of metal wanna be cowboys w
EXTD=ho play music in slow motion. ORIGIN is metal, NILE is metal, MYR
EXTD=KSKOG is metal. So what is this? Adult Alternative? Emo? Country?
EXTD= If this music were any softer it would a classical record. This
EXTD=is the prime example of trying way tooo hard and failing horribly

EXTD=uly 30, 2004\nReviewer: crackerman (the frayed ends of sanity)\nT
EXTD=his EP costs less than St. Anger and contains the best song from
EXTD=it (the best song they have written in 15 years). In addition, it
EXTD= has 6 live versions of some of their classic material (nothing f
EXTD=rom Load or after, thankfully). The only drawback is that James H
EXTD=etfield's singing on the live tracks isn't always the best. Regar
EXTD=dless, it is still a good purchase. You also get another version
EXTD=of Some Kind of Monster "edited" by Bob Rock, which sucks. It is
EXTD=about half the length of the original song and was meant for the
EXTD=radio, where apparently people can't handle more than 10 seconds
EXTD=of music without vocals. He even removed the excellent second sec
EXTD=tion of the song, with the cool "Ominous, I'm in us" chanting. La
EXTD=me. The EP doesn't include the other two good songs on St. Anger
EXTD=(Purify and Unnamed Feeling), but if you would feel dirty paying
EXTD=for an album with so much garbage on it (like me), this EP is a b
EXTD=etter choice.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nBest of the recent M
EXTD=etallica showings , July 23, 2004\nReviewer: JB (Northville, MI)\n
EXTD=Ok well first off I bought this EP because A) It has 4 live track
EXTD=s that aren't on "Live Sh*t" or "S+M", B) I *love* Metallica live
EXTD= and C) It came with a T-shirt. The title track and its edited ve
EXTD=rsion aren't that bad...better than most of the other stuff off o
EXTD=f St. Anger..but I haven't heard all of St. Anger so I'm not real
EXTD=ly fit to review that song \n\nAnyways to the reason I bought the
EXTD= CD: the live tracks \n\nFirst we have to remeber that Hetfield s
EXTD=ings now. He doesn't scream, making tracks like Damage Inc. and H
EXTD=it the Lights world's different from their album counterparts. \n
EXTD=\nThe Four Horsemen and Motorbreath are more or less the same as
EXTD=the versions off of Live Sh*t, but I expected that. \n\nI liked D
EXTD=amage Inc. on MOP, and Hetfield singing instead of screaming make
EXTD=s it sound very tame...not as it was intended. IMO, not a bad son
EXTD=g, but the weakest link on this EP \n\nLeper Messiah, one of my p
EXTD=ersonal favorites off MOP, still remains my favortie off this EP.
EXTD= Hetfield's drum imitation at the end is hilarious. \n\nRide the
EXTD=Lightning, a song that was sadly and suprisingly absent on Live S
EXTD=h*t, does justice to the old classic. The beginning sounds a litt
EXTD=le weird, but the rest of the song is sweet. The third verse is..
EXTD=.interesting...but I can't spoil it! :-x \n\nHit the Lights, IMO
EXTD=a very underrated song from Kill 'Em All, is as quick and furious
EXTD= as the album version...kind of cool to compare the two and hear
EXTD=how much different Hetfield's voice sounds. Kirk kind of improvis
EXTD=es the final guitar solo, but its all good. \n\nAll in all a good
EXTD= buy for $10 ($15 for the package for the T-Shirt) Good promotion
EXTD= for the movie, which is sadly not being released near me...*snif
EXTD=fle* oh well, if anyone sees it tell me if its any good... \n\nAM
EXTD=AZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nExcellent EP, July 18, 2004\nReviewer:
EXTD=Kent Rieger (Mundelein, Illinois United States)\nI must say that
EXTD=when I first heard that Metallica was releasing Some Kind Of Mons
EXTD=ter as a single, I was a bit apprehensive because the song as it'
EXTD=s presented on the album is a pointless 8:30 and really kills wha
EXTD=t could've been a shorter better song. Hence, the excellent edit.
EXTD= Normally, I'm one to insult Bob Rock (if you've ever read my St.
EXTD= Anger review you'll understand) for doing horrendous things to M
EXTD=etallica's sound but he actually turned a sh*tty song into a good
EXTD= four minute song. Still no solo but very entertaining. \nThe liv
EXTD=e songs are the real treat and the basic reason I bought this. I
EXTD=thought it'd be interesting to hear these rarely played songs liv
EXTD=e. I think that Tallica does a great job on all six songs (and ca
EXTD=n be quite funny especially during ride the lightning) they do a
EXTD=good job on all the songs which are entirely from their first thr
EXTD=ee albums. It's really cool I think to hear james sing Hit The Li
EXTD=ghts, The Four Horsemen, and Motorbreath just because they are su
EXTD=ch old songs and the band is soo different now. Motorbreath is th
EXTD=e only downside because I think it could've been replaced with ma
EXTD=ybe another rarely played live song because as most fans know the
EXTD=y always play Motorbreath generally as a set closer. Overall, def
EXTD=initely worth my 9 bucks and I highly recommend this EP to any fa
EXTD=n of old metallica who wants a cheap way to hear old metallica so
EXTD=ngs played. It's also just really cool to see an edited version o
EXTD=f Some Kind Of Monster which i still believe could've had a solo
EXTD=but alas Bob Rock forced Kirk to not solo. I won't b**ch about th
EXTD=at here for that you can go to my St. Anger review. Go out and bu

EXTD=flat on its face like St. Anger? Read on to find out...\n\nTrack
EXTD=Listing-\n\nThe first thing you notice about 'Some Kind of Monste
EXTD=r' is the Track Listing is rather odd. First, you have the 'St. A
EXTD=nger' "Some Kind of Monster", and a new edit of "Some Kind of Mon
EXTD=ster", so two of the 8 tracks are "Some Kind of Monster", and sin
EXTD=ce it's a sub-par song, that's not a good thing. Then, we get an
EXTD=array of tracks from the 80's, but, unfortuneatly,other than "Mot
EXTD=orbreath", most of the songs are some of Metallica's weakest trac
EXTD=ks from the 80's. We get Three tracks from Kill 'Em All, which in
EXTD=clude "The Four Horsemen","Motorbreath","and "Hit The Lights". Si
EXTD=nce 'Kill 'Em All' is Metallica's Worst Record of the 80's, it's
EXTD=surprising that it contains the bulk of the material, which, whil
EXTD=e very good, is not Metallica's best. From 'Ride The Lightning',
EXTD=we get "Ride The Lightning", which is one of the best songs off '
EXTD=Ride The Lightning', and I'm glad they included it, because it's
EXTD=not very popular. From 'Master of Puppets', we get "Leper Messiah
EXTD=" and "Damage, INC.", arguably the worst songs off 'Master of Pup
EXTD=pets'. That sums up the track listing, but here's how I would hav
EXTD=e done it-\n\n1. Seek and Destroy\n2. For Whom The Bells Toll\n3.
EXTD= Sanitarium\n4. One\n5. Enter Sandman\n6. King Nothing\n7. Whiske
EXTD=y in Jar\n8. Some Kind of Monster\n\nI feel that more accurately
EXTD=represents Metallica's material, and I was a tad dissapointed at
EXTD=the Track Listing, although I did like the inclusion of "Ride The
EXTD= Lightning", arguably the best song on 'Some Kind of Monster'. Tr
EXTD=ack Listing- 2/5\n\nBand Performance-\nFirst off, the two "Some K
EXTD=ind of Monster"'s are what you'd expect from St. Anger. Tin-Can D
EXTD=rumming from Lars, Good riffs from Hammett(Nothing compared to ea
EXTD=rlier material), but unfortuneatly, no solos. Hetfield's vocals a
EXTD=ren't to good, except during the chorus. Overall, "Some Kind of M
EXTD=onster" is a Sub-par performance. On to the concert! Lars Ulrich'
EXTD=s drumming is Spot-on, and his performance accurately represents
EXTD=the songs he plays. On many tracks though, the drums sound slight
EXTD=ly "off-tune", except nowhere near the bad quality on 'St. Anger'
EXTD=. Kirk Hammett is Kirk Hammett, and shows why he's one of the pre
EXTD=mier guitarists in Heavy Metal. His performance is great, showcas
EXTD=ing blistering solos and equally agressive riffs, and his guitar
EXTD=sounds perfect, and he represents his old material very well. Jam
EXTD=es Hetfield's vocals are good at times, and bad at times. Because
EXTD= he "deepened" his vocals during the 90's, the 80's material soun
EXTD=ds MUCH different. For me, I happen to like the original vocals f
EXTD=rom Hetfield, but sometimes his vocals work, such as on "Ride The
EXTD= Lightning", while other times, such as on "The Four Horseman", t
EXTD=hey sound weird. Robert Trujillo has a good performance, and I ca
EXTD=n't fault him in his bass playing! Overall, a pretty good Live pe
EXTD=rformance, though not as good as S&M or Live Sh*t. Band Performan
EXTD=ce- 4/5\n\nSound Quality/Crowd-\n\n'Some Kind of Monster' general
EXTD=ly has good Sound Quality, except it's a Live album, so some feat
EXTD=ures, such as the drumming and the bass, get lost in the thick of
EXTD= things, and sometimes both instruments sound hollow. Hammett and
EXTD= Hetfield's guitars sounded perfect though, and they perfectly ec
EXTD=ho out through my speakers at the blistering speeds they're playe
EXTD=d. Hetfield's vocals are clear, yet, as I said before, they sound
EXTD= a little strange on some of the songs. The Crowd Interaction was
EXTD= like it wasn't even there, because other than clapping, Paris di
EXTD=d absolutely nothing! Oh well it won't affect my rating! Sound Qu
EXTD=ality- 4/5\n\nOverall, 'Some Kind of Monster' was all I expected,
EXTD= not less or more so. The reason I give it Three stars is, becaus
EXTD=e of the less than stellar Track Selection(But they did put "Ride
EXTD= The Lightning" on, and it's the best here!), the iffy vocals fro
EXTD=m Hetfield, and the slightly off(But not badly) sound quality of
EXTD=the Drums and Bass. If you're looking for a cheap way to hear Met
EXTD=allica Live, the 'Some Kind of Monster' EP is for you. Although,
EXTD=I would recommend S&M more, but some people might not like the or
EXTD=chestra.\n\nHalf.com Details \nProducer: Bob Rock, Metallica \n\n

EXTD=: Paris, France (06/11/2003).\n\nReleased in conjunction with the
EXTD= lauded 2004 documentary of the same name, SOME KIND OF MONSTER,
EXTD=like its film counterpart, features Metallica in raw and intense
EXTD=form. In addition to two versions of the pummeling title track (t
EXTD=aken from ST. ANGER), this EP presents the long-running metal ban
EXTD=d performing at a 2003 concert in Paris, charging through six of
EXTD=their classic mid-'80s tunes.\nAlthough frontman James Hetfield's
EXTD= voice has lost some of its signature snarl, the quartet still kn
EXTD=ows its way around some seriously fierce tunes, as evidenced by f
EXTD=ormidable renditions of "Damage Inc." and "Hit the Lights." While
EXTD= drummer Lars Ulrich and bassist Robert Trujillo throw down tight
EXTD= rhythms, the true highlight of this outing proves to be Kirk Ham
EXTD=mett's blistering guitar solos, which proudly reveal that these e
EXTD=lder statesmen still know how to rock.
