EXTD=Greatest Hits: Sound & Vision\n\nOriginally Released March 7, 200
EXTD=6\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Greatest Hits: Sound & Vision distinguish
EXTD=es itself from the other Blondie compilations (of which there are
EXTD= several) by adding a DVD that contains 16 (all?) of the group's
EXTD=videos. A couple inconsequential remixes appear where original ve
EXTD=rsions or other career highlights should be present, but otherwis
EXTD=e, the audio disc does a fair job, even though it's basically ret
EXTD=racing the steps of the compilations that came before it. Most of
EXTD= the essential material is here ("Heart of Glass," "Rapture," "Ha
EXTD=nging on the Telephone," "One Way or Another," "Dreaming," "Atomi
EXTD=c"), but it's inexplicable that neither "X Offender" nor "(I'm Al
EXTD=ways Touched by Your) Presence, Dear" made they cut, especially w
EXTD=hen they are on the edition of this release that came out in Germ
EXTD=any. Some of the most devout fans will be irritated by the idea o
EXTD=f buying the hits all over again in order to get the DVD, and the
EXTD= studio albums were reissued in 2001 with excellent remastered so
EXTD=und, so they really won't have any desire for all the overlapping
EXTD= content. Despite these issues, this set remains one of the best
EXTD=(and best looking) Blondie compilations, even without considering
EXTD= the videos. "Rapture Riders," a very silly and perverse mash-up
EXTD=of "Rapture" with the Doors' "Riders on the Storm," is included a
EXTD=s a bonus track. -- Andy Kellman\n\nAmazon.com Product Descriptio
EXTD=n\nBlondie defies definition. The legendary band is a little bit
EXTD=punk, a little bit reggae, a little bit rock, a little bit new wa
EXTD=ve, a little bit pop, a little bit hip-hop and a lot of downtown
EXTD=attitude. Already gold in Europe, Blondie: Greatest Hits--Sound &
EXTD= Vision was released March 7 by Capitol/EMI, one week before the
EXTD=band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. The new CD/
EXTD=DVD package contains 20 audio tracks and 16 video clips, includin
EXTD=g the band's biggest hits and previously unreleased remixes. "Rap
EXTD=ture Riders"--a mash-up of the band's "Rapture" with the Doors' "
EXTD=Riders on the Storm"--and its accompanying UK music video make th
EXTD=eir release debut on the new collection.\n\nBlondie's influence o
EXTD=n today's artists is undeniable. Debbie Harry and Blondie have be
EXTD=en a major influence on superstars like Madonna, Garbage's Shirle
EXTD=y Manson, and R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, among many others. They wer
EXTD=e one of the first groups to emerge from New York's new wave/punk
EXTD= renaissance with an album (1976's Blondie); the first to chart a
EXTD= #1 single, a revolutionaryblend of punk and disco ("Heart of Gla
EXTD=ss"); and the first to top the charts with both a rap song (1981'
EXTD=s "Rapture") and a reggae tune ("The Tide Is High"). And now Blon
EXTD=die have added to their legacy by being selected for induction in
EXTD= the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Black Sabbath, Lynyrd
EXTD=Skynyrd, the Sex Pistols, and Miles Davis, as one of two first-ti
EXTD=me nominees (Davis is the other).\n\n"This is a tremendous honor
EXTD=for us," said the band's lead vocalist Deborah Harry, who is cele
EXTD=brating Blondie's 30th anniversary this year. "We're proud to tak
EXTD=e our place alongside some of our own idols."\n\nCD/DVD with 20 a
EXTD=udio tracks and 16 videos, including Blondie classics: "Heart of
EXTD=Glass," "Atomic," "Call Me," "Rapture," "Maria"; previously unrel
EXTD=eased remixes of "In the Flesh" and "Good Boys"; and special bonu
EXTD=s audio and video tracks: "Rapture Riders"--Blondie vs. the Doors
EXTD= (debut release of the new mash-up of the band's 1980 hit "Raptur
EXTD=e" and the Doors' "Riders on the Storm").\n\nDVD includes 13 musi
EXTD=c videos spanning 1977 to 1982, including groundbreaking conceptu
EXTD=al clips for "Denis" and "The Tide Is High," as well as their mos
EXTD=t recent productions for "Maria" and "Good Boys," plus the new mu
EXTD=sic video for the "Rapture Riders" mash-up. \n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOM
EXTD=ER REVIEW\nBlondie Ambition, April 21, 2006\nReviewer: Steven Hou
EXTD=sman "SHARK" (West Hollywood, CA & Miami, FL)\nIf you're already
EXTD=asking yourself, 'Do I really need another Blondie compilation?'
EXTD=then I must tell you that the answer is most definitely "Yes!" Th
EXTD=is is the most comprehensive collection the band has delivered in
EXTD= their thirty-year history. No, it's not a box set of rarities, i
EXTD=t's a two-disc set with one disc of "sound" that contains their g
EXTD=reatest hits of the past three decades and one DVD disc of "visio
EXTD=n" that provides solid proof of why this amazing New York-based b
EXTD=and, fronted by Debbie Harry, was recently inducted into the Rock
EXTD= & Roll Hall Of Fame. Of course, the obvious hits are here, begin
EXTD=ning with the song that put them on the worldwide map - the #1 sm
EXTD=ash "Heart Of Glass." Other #1 smash records that follow are the
EXTD=Deborah Harry/Giorgio Moroder penned "Call Me," the reggae-tinged
EXTD= "The Tide Is High" and "Rapture," which made them the first new
EXTD=wave turned mainstream band to have a #1 rap song, not to mention
EXTD= by a female lead. The widely exposed "One Way Or Another" is her
EXTD=e along with the 1979 classic "Dreaming" and the 1999 rocker "Mar
EXTD=ia." In between those obvious inclusions are tracks that have bec
EXTD=ome Blondie staples ranging from their 1976 debut single "Rip Her
EXTD= To Shreds," through 2003's "Good Boys" with a new mix added in 2
EXTD=005. Other masterpieces include "Atomic," which topped the charts
EXTD= in the UK in 1979, "Sunday Girl," a new remix of "In The Flesh,"
EXTD= "Denis," "Picture This," "Fade Away And Radiate," "Hanging On Th
EXTD=e Telephone," "Union City Blue," "Island Of Lost Souls" "End To E
EXTD=nd" and a new single that's burning up the clubs as I write this,
EXTD= "Rapture Riders," billed as Blondie VS. The Doors, with the clas
EXTD=sic 1981 track mixed with the phenomenal Doors' 1971 epic "Riders
EXTD= On The Storm." Everything old is brand new again and sounding fr
EXTD=esher than ever. The DVD of their performance videos include most
EXTD= of what's on the CD with the inclusion of "Detroit 442," and a p
EXTD=ersonal favorite "The Hardest Part." The Bonus DVD track is a UK
EXTD=version of the Blondie VS. The Doors' "Rapture Riders." It's inev
EXTD=itable that Blondie will one day deliver a box set of hits and ra
EXTD=rities in one package, but until they do, pick up this "Sound & V
EXTD=ision" set, and hear and see why Blondie was, and is, one of the
EXTD=most important rock and roll bands of all-time. \n\nAMAZON.COM CU
EXTD=STOMER REVIEW\nClassic Cuts And New Sounds., April 3, 2006\nRevie
EXTD=wer: Mr. Fellini "Fellini" (El Paso, Texas United States)\nJust i
EXTD=n time for their induction into the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame com
EXTD=es this new Blondie collection that showcases some of the band's
EXTD=most popular, influential songs, material from their recent relea
EXTD=ses and a mash-up with one of the bands that influenced them. "So
EXTD=und & Vision," like most Best Of sets is both a good introduction
EXTD= to the band's music and a well-assembled collection for the casu
EXTD=al listener who likes Blondie, but enough to purchase every album
EXTD=. There is no doubt that Debbie Harry and the gang not only produ
EXTD=ced good music, but were one of the main reasons why we have real
EXTD= chick rockers like Shirley Manson, Gwen Stefani and yes, Madonna
EXTD=. Befire Princess Diana ever graced magazine covers, Harry was th
EXTD=e most photographed woman in the world but a real Punk at heart,
EXTD=posing at times with such figures as Joey Ramone and Iggy Pop (ev
EXTD=enthough at one point Patti Smith told her to "get the f--k out o
EXTD=f rock n' roll"). "Sound And Vision" nicely shows what all the fu
EXTD=ss was about in the late 70's through mid-80's. A lot of the song
EXTD=s have survived the test of time with a real sense of fun and ene
EXTD=rgy like "Call Me" with it's roaring chorus and electro sheen whi
EXTD=le "Heart Of Glass" is still a classic jam, disco has died and ye
EXTD=t this song remains. "Rapture" is still a long, dreamy anthem tha
EXTD=t brought hip-hop to a wider audience before Aerosmith and Run DM
EXTD=C ever broke the barrier of rock and rap. Newer material is also
EXTD=present here, "Maria" was a single off the band's 1999 album "No
EXTD=Exit," but it still has that classic Blondie sound. However I do
EXTD=believe listeners are cheated here when it comes to the song "Goo
EXTD=d Boys" off their latest release, "The Curse Of Blondie." The ori
EXTD=ginal version is a great song, but the remix here makes the song
EXTD=kind of cold and hollow, the same for the "In The Flesh" remix wh
EXTD=ich rips the song apart, turning it into cold, techno sludge. Luc
EXTD=kily there is one worthy remix present, "Rapture Riders," which b
EXTD=rilliantly meshes "Rapture" with The Doors' "Riders On The Storm.
EXTD=" Both songs flow perfectly together and it's a fitting combinati
EXTD=on since Blondie have always named The Doors as a prime influence
EXTD= and favorite band. Too bad Jim Morrison died in 1972, you get th
EXTD=e feeling he and Harry would have done a marvelous duet. The extr
EXTD=a DVD that comes with the set is a must for Blondie fans, many of
EXTD= the band's videos are included for classics like "Heart Of Glass
EXTD=," "The Tide Is High" and even the recent videos for "Maria" and
EXTD="Good Boys." "Sight In Sound" a fun ride through the Blondie cata
EXTD=logue and a must for collectors of classic rock anthologies, and
EXTD=a neat teaching tool for those who wanna know why girls like Gwen
EXTD=, Shirley and even Britney have been scandalous and glamorous and
EXTD= know how to pull it off and who they learned it from.\n\nAMAZON.
EXTD=COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nToo Short, but sounds good., March 14, 2006\n
EXTD=Reviewer: B. Finney "dexbet" (Colchester, Vermont United States)\n
EXTD=Most of the songs are the shortened/edited single versions. Not t
EXTD=he album versions. Too bad. However, within the CD/DVD packaging,
EXTD= there is advertising for all the albums (even Hunter) stating th
EXTD=ere are bonus tracs. I guess this CD is a come-on to buy all the
EXTD=original albums. Almost no liner notes--no who's who or timeline
EXTD=history or anything. Again, too bad. Sounds good.\n\nAMAZON.COM C
EXTD=USTOMER REVIEW\nFlawed, March 12, 2006\nReviewer: mat davenport\n
EXTD=Mysteriously the record company decided to omit "X-offender" and
EXTD="Presence Dear", 2 Blondie classics. Buy the import instead, both
EXTD= songs are included.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nDeleted Songs
EXTD=, March 8, 2006\nReviewer: C. W. Schultheis (Las Vegas)\nThey del
EXTD=eted the two songs for the U.S. release, X-offender and Preasence
EXTD= Dear, due to the fact that they were primarily U.K. hits and sin
EXTD=gles. X-offender was only relased in the U.S. as a promo single t
EXTD=o their 1st album. Preasence Dear was also a U.K. single as well
EXTD=as a top ten hit there. \n\nThose videos were probably never show
EXTD=n to U.S. audiences. SO they delete them to compliment the the vi
EXTD=deo package. \n\nI do however like the fact they added Fade Away
EXTD=and Radiate to the greatest hits compilation. It was always one o
EXTD=f thier better songs.\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nUS release
EXTD= of Greatest Hits and DVD-- edited a bit!!, March 7, 2006\nReview
EXTD=er: K. Eisenberger "dance music freak!" (Defiance, Ohio United St
EXTD=ates)\nI will always give anything Debbie Harry and Blondie does
EXTD=the highest rating even when the label decides to subtract tracks
EXTD= and DVDs off of the collections. I got the German version of the
EXTD= Sound & Vision :Greatest Hits collection for Christmas from my f
EXTD=riend Roland in Holland and I actually bought a region free dvd p
EXTD=layer from my brother who works at Best Buy for Christmas so I co
EXTD=uld watch the DVD ahead of the US release. But now as Blondie bec
EXTD=omes the first Chrysalis and who knows how long Capitol act to go
EXTD= into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame comes this collection. The ori
EXTD=ginal cd from Europe had 22 tracks and ran 79 minutes and the dvd
EXTD= had 17 Videos and ran around 57 minutes. The US version from Cap
EXTD=itol removes for what unknown reason the SONGS and VIDEOS to "X O
EXTD=ffender" and the classic "I'm Always Touched By Your Presence Dea
EXTD=r" from the package. I am upset about this because when Capitol i
EXTD=ssued the Kylie Minogue Ultimate Kylie cd/dvd collection or the B
EXTD=est Shots release from Pat Benatar -- nothing was taken off eithe
EXTD=r cd or DVD. So why Blondie when it was issued as a release to go
EXTD= with their induction of them into the Hall Of Fame. This makes m
EXTD=e angry that these 2 songs and videos were removed. If you have t
EXTD=he chance to buy the European dvd version you would see the begin
EXTD=ning of "X Offender" with Debbie talking at the beginning of the
EXTD=video and for "Presence Dear" video instead of the car scene from
EXTD= The Best Of Blondie collection you get the shot of the Double Cl
EXTD=ems that begin the video. I do not see why they were removed. \n\n
EXTD=Now onto the actual US collection. This Greatest Hits is differen
EXTD=t than the 2002 Hits collection. This one uses only single mixes
EXTD=for the cd-- for the hits and longer tracks. NO full lp mixes for
EXTD= "Atomic" or "The Tide Is High". They-- like the European version
EXTD= put the UK and US number one tracks out front at tracks 1-7 and
EXTD=in order as well. "Heart Of Glass " from 1979 to "Maria" in 1999.
EXTD= All 7 number one tracks. Plus you also get the classics like "Dr
EXTD=eaming" "One Way Or Another" and "Island Of Lost Souls" that were
EXTD= US top 40 singles. Plus for the first time on a US cd the FULL p
EXTD=romo only before now 12" (6:06) Blow Up Mix that Sanctuary issued
EXTD= for "Good Boys". This is the rarest track here because it was a
EXTD=Promo only to Dj's mix that is now on the cd. PLUS you get a bran
EXTD=d new version of the classic first huge hit from 1976 "In The Fle
EXTD=sh" done electro style by Super Buddha that has worked with Sciss
EXTD=or Sisters. PLUS the reason this cd did well in the UK-- the mash
EXTD= up for "Rapture Riders" that is out on UK vinyl 12". Done by Mar
EXTD=k Vidler it uses the music and beat from the original 1981 "Raptu
EXTD=re" while mostly using the vocals to The Doors trippy "Riders On
EXTD=The Storm". Listen to Jim Morrison sound so incredible and at eas
EXTD=e under the dance beat and then listen for the FULL rap of Debbie
EXTD='s from "Rapture". The original single mix found on the European
EXTD=version of this cd is only 3:46 while on the US version it is 4:0
EXTD=4. A tiny bit longer but still not as long as the FULL VERSION (w
EXTD=hich is 5:43) on 12" and promo cd single. \n\nThe Videos-- well f
EXTD=rom 1976 to 1982 Blondie issued 23 videos from each of their albu
EXTD=ms. So this is just a primer to when Capitol or EMI finally issue
EXTD= the full release of the 12 tracks of videos from Eat To The Beat
EXTD=. But the plus side (even though they deleated 2 of the best know
EXTD= Blondie videos) is that you get them without the stupid skits fr
EXTD=om The Best Of Blondie collection. Full and complete videos (alth
EXTD=ough I still think that "Rapture " is from The Best Of Blondie wi
EXTD=th the beginning) BUT you do get the video that was not on the Eu
EXTD=ropean issued DVD for "Rapture Riders" so that is a plus. Plus th
EXTD=e "The Tide Is High" video is the US VH1 Classic version and not
EXTD=the original 1981 version. \n\nSo if you haven't bought the Europ
EXTD=ean version of this collection then it is fine to buy the US vers
EXTD=ion because you will get the chance to see the videos completely
EXTD=but remember that Capitol cut 2 of the best videos and songs from
EXTD= this collection and I still have no clue as to why. A++++ again
EXTD=for just the fact that it is Debbie Harry and Blondie and the fac
EXTD=t they are finally going into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame - a
EXTD=thing that should have happened four years ago. BUY it still.\n\n
