The five debs here were compiled on a standard breezy install (in a chroot jail). All five debs MUST be installed. To install firstly use synaptic to remove all four 1.3.6 lyx packages (lyx, lyx-common, lyx-qt and lyx-xforms)
then make sure that the libforms1 package is installed. Then at a command line issue the following:

sudo dpkg -i lyx_1.4.0-1.lyx.org.1_all.deb lyx-common_1.4.0-1.lyx.org.1_all.deb lyx-qt_1.4.0-1.lyx.org.1_i386.deb lyx-xforms_1.4.0-1.lyx.org.1_i386.deb lyx-gtk_1.4.0-1.lyx.org.1_i386.deb
